US 2012 Election Results Map by County:

US Election Result - County by County is always very interesting.  As you can see the country i dominated by the red.  Even in Democratic "Blue" States there is more red.  Interesting, to know that you can drive from coast to coast (east to west) and never leave a red county.  Similarly, you can drive from north to south and never leave a red county!

Quite interesting: he ONLY carried urban areas - the places where there are large numbers of entitlement recipients.

So you're saying that large chunks of New Mexico, Maine, Arkasas, Northern Minnesota, etc. are urban? Get a clue.

where is the big chunk in Arkansas, other than around Little Rock and Memphis?

Hmm??....what about all those miles and miles of 'red' that receive farm, oil and gas subsidies..I do believe they are 'entitlement recipients too.
Perhaps they are hypocrits?

Ranchers don't get entitlements, so be careful who you incluede.

Well at least farm, oil and gas subsidies provide to the economic well being of the country. What are we getting from these urban communities? High crime rates? Bankrupt cities? Unsustainable entitlement benefits? This sad list could go on for pages. It's time for people to own up, and do what everyone else has done since the beginning of mankind. Work for your spoils. Or else, like what's happening in many countries right now, uprisings, chaos, and very unpopular austerity measures. It's only a matter of time.

Did you really just compare farmers subidies to the parasites in urban cities with their welfare checks and free cell phones? Come on, you're smarter than that.

Someone obviously doesn't know their geography to say that the "large chunks" are not urban. The blue areas are where the only large cites are ie: New Mexico. "Get a clue", you say? How about you get educated in America.

You are all missing the point that in 2003, 12.3% of urban Americans and 13.9% of rural Americans lived below the poverty line. In 2008, the urban rate has risen to 12.7% and the rural rate had jumped to 16.3%. The difference is that 11% of rural poor receive welfare compared to 14% of urban poor. That is because welfare is harder to access, is not always available, and carries a negative social stigma in rural areas.

You should see welfare office in New York , Newark or Philadelphia most of people is between 25 - 35 and have no intention of looking for a job. And most depressing most of the never worked. I did see it with my own eyes when I went to Brooklyn office with my mom who is 83, don't have enough money for food. Entitlement is dangerous mental state.

Don't be offended if you are getting government support do something about it. Get a JOB.

Obama won by a coalition; it's not so easy to simplify to one factor. Urban centers also attract young people and more educated - carried by Obama. Plenty of studies linking party affiliation to educational level. Of course, this is only one factor, but not one considered here. Minneapolis, Seattle, Portand - urban but not poor, but very solid dem - progressive- cities filled with educated young people (also in the coalition. Not all cities are this, but shows welfare arguments are too simple)

Why are the "welfare states" in Europe (Sweden, Norway etc) so productive, stable, crime-free? Not suggesting this for the US, but it shows the misconceptions of the benefits of providing for basic human needs for all. "Dangerous mental state." - not supported. Lack of basic needs and opportunities is linked to crime, drugs, and helplessness. What if the only financially successful role-model on you block is a drug-dealer?

if the areas are so educated that elected Obama, why did they elect him! A well educated person would have been more informed and looked at the record of his past four years and the millions of policy's he has been making and known that he clearly should not have been re-elected! Whoa is America now! Repent, Repent, Repent!

the tax rate in Sweden is 48.5% don't think we want that, although that's where we're headed with current spending levels

Northern Minnesota includes Duluth, one of our larger cities and is where the iron range is.. they are major welfare and program recipients... So yes, the pattern holds with Obama only carrying entitlement folks.

Its not because of the 'parasites' that obama won. There aren't nearly as many as everybody assumes. Obama's votes came from young people everywhere, women across the nation, and the pro-gay rights community. Republicans' beligerent protest of many people's rights based solely on tradition is going to keep costing them elections unless they open their eyes a little more on key social issues.

The three groups mentioned above were inclined to vote for Obama because they felt he would do the most for their own personal liberties. Whether or not he rolls up his sleeves and makes serious change without fretting over re-election remains to be seen.

What you just said about him being for those specific groups liberties and to me ignores everyone else's liberty at it's expense vaguely reminds me of Pres Andrew Jackson. Right or wrong they both pushed for liberties for a select few. But I suppose the similarities would end there.

Almost all of the money to pay for entitlements comes from the cities. Most of the red and rural area is resource extraction. The US is primarily a service (city) economy. The urban area money subsidizes everyone else. Many of the less populous and more conservative states receive more money from the federal government to keep up their infrastructures etc. rsg than they ever pay in taxes.

The dems will always carry the entitlement society. Anyone that looks at this map and cannot see why dems win is either blind or is on entitlement themselves. As far as New Mexico, most of the state is hispanic and on entitlements

You have to notice that (Generally) the more urban areas do, acually, vote blue.

Urban area also pay the bulk of the taxes.

Rural areas and rural states are more likely to be net recipients of government largess they are the 'takers'.
