Merry Christmas from Common Cents:

Mr and Mrs Common Cents want to wish all of our visitors new and old a Very Merry Christmas!  We hope your Christmas Season is filled with joy, happiness and good health!  Remember Jesus is the Reason for the Season!

Luke 2:1-14:  And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Dr. Becky Hollibaugh, DO - An Open Letter from a Nebraska Doctor to President Obama:

A huge hat tip to Michelle Malkin.  Her site should be required reading!

"A Nebraska doctor's message for Ben Nelson"

Hello Michelle:
I’m a family practice doctor in Nebraska. I sent the following (angry,I admit) letter to Senator Nelson. I urge your readers (from Nebraska and elsewhere) to do likewise, in their own words!
Dear Senator Nelson:
I send this message under “Tort Reform” because the current monstrosity you have pledged your support to says nothing whatsoever about Tort Reform. You have sold the physicians of Nebraska for zilch (zilch for us, but beaucoup federal bucks for you and the liberal partisans in this state). As a family practice physician in Small Town, Nebraska, I was counting on you to be the lone voice of Democratic sanity on this issue, but you sold me out. I will dedicate every spare minute of my time and every spare dollar I have to defeating you, should you run for re-election. The long hours I spent on my medical education and the long hours I spend treating my patients are nothing but chump change to you and your Democrat colleagues in Washington. I especially can’t wait for your equivocation and milquetoast evasion when your “compromises” on the abortion language in the bill are silently erased or quietly (on-little-legislative-cat’s-feet) eviscerated in the House/Senate give-and-take. Go on: Bet me that you won’t wuss-out on this issue!  I know you won’t give two-seconds to this letter, but I had to write it. I’m a primary care doctor in YOUR state, and you sold me out. I didn’t slog through 4 years of college and 4 years of medical school and 3 years of residency just to have you hand my career and my patient/doctor relationships over to government lifers. Your gutless acquiescence to Obama and Harry Reid and ‘Nanny’ Pelosi will NOT be forgotten.
Thank you, Ben, for forcing doctors like me to earn less than the repairmen who fix our appliances. Case in point: We recently had our dishwasher fixed. The repairman who came to our house charged $65 just to come and ‘diagnose’ the problem, then charged another $180 to ‘fix’ the problem. You and your fellow lawmakers have fixed MY going rate (Medicare) at $35 per-visit. Thank you for securing such a ‘lucrative’ rate for me! Thank you so much for making me–someone with 8 years of education!–make less than a mechanic or appliance repair technichian. And thanks especially for falling in line with Obama and the rest of the Democrats to make such a socialist system permanent.
You have my disgust and disdain forever, you socialist-coddling coward.
Sincerely,
Becky F. Hollibaugh, D.O.

Dr. Hollibaugh adds in an e-mail update in response to left-wing critics:

…To those who would accuse me of greed: I don’t make as much as you think I do. I give every one of my patients the very best care I can offer, regardless of their ability to pay. And I do NOT begrudge my mechanic or my appliance repairmen their salaries. Not one bit. I gladly pay them what I owe them. What you leftist idiots don’t understand is this: I am forced to accept $35 for an office visit by a medicaid or medicare patient. I. Can’t. Afford. It. On that enforced wage, I can’t pay my nurses. I can’t pay my billing secretaries. I can’t pay my receptionist. I. Can’t. Survive. On. Obamacare. Get it?! I. Can’t. Pay. My. Nurses. On. Ben. Nelson. Wages. Get it? I hope so. You think I’m greedy? I went to medical school as a former nurse at age 36. I have over $180,000 dollars in student loans. I. Can’t. Survive. On. Obamacare. I hope this helps. I don’t make as much as you might think. And most of what I earn goes to repaying my student loans. I love my little family medicine clinic in Friend. I love being a doctor in rural Nebraska. I love my patients and I love rural family medicine. But Ben Nelson sold me out. Thanks again for letting me vent. I’m not greedy. I don’t envy the wages of my blue-collar friends. But I can’t survive or pay my employees on Uncle Sam’s reimbursement rate for my services.

The best editorial page you will find

is Investor's Business Daily.  IBD published easy to read, hard-hitting, common sense editorials that are just superlative.  Published five days a week you should make IBD one of your bookmarks - you will not be disappointed. Recent editorial include:

To Denmark, From Russia, With Lies:  Russian analysts accuse Britain's Meteorological Office of cherry-picking Russian temperature data to "hide the decline" in global temperatures. Is Copenhagen rooted in a single tree in Siberia?

Another Way Forward After Copenhagen:  Common sense is tough to find in Washington. Even though unemployment in America has reached double digits, President Obama was in Copenhagen to attempt to commit the U.S. to passing climate change legislation that will increase taxes, kill jobs and reduce our economic growth.

Augean Socialism:  If you don't think heavy regulation, elephantine bureaucracies, union rule and runaway spending amount to poison for an economy, take a gander at what decades of such socialist policies have done to Greece.

Palin Vs. Arnold: Terminating California:  Alaska's ex-governor asks a question we'd like answered: Why is California's current governor pushing the same policies in Copenhagen that helped drive his state into record deficits and unemployment?

Killing Time:  With public support in free fall, the twin outrages of secrecy and haste may kill the congressional Democrats' health wrecking plan. But the stake hasn't yet been driven into its heart.

I really like the fall season.

Today is another wonderful fall day in the Washington D.C. area.  Though the leaves have largely turned and mostly fall off it is just another spectacular autumn day.  Fall is by far my favorite season and all the traditions that go with it, raking of the leaves, the smell of the fire burning in the fireplace and the cool crisp evenings.  One of our favorite traditions is to let the dogs run through the leaves and bury their heads in a pile of leaves.  When Winter finally comes next week (December 22) it will be sad to say goodbye to our favorite season, Autumn.

My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!

The U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote on Health Care at any time now.  This despite the White House being at odds with the Catholic Church over abortion the fact that the bill calls for jail time for those without Health Insurance and the bill has a monthly abortion premium.

Gateway Pundit:

Jim Hoft- Gateway Pundit: I had a couple of more questions. One is did you see Kevin Jennings at the conference?
Massachusetts Teacher: Yes, he was the keynote speaker…
GP: So he was at this conference where they were promoting sexual acts with kids. They were promoting sex between kids and adults and he was the keynote speaker there?
MT: Yes.
GP: And it was his organization that actually ran the conference. Is that correct?
MT: Specifically, it was GLSEN Massachusetts. But remember, he not only founded GLSEN in Massachusetts but at that point he was the head of the national GLSEN which I believe was in New York City at that time. I don’t know where it is now. He was touted as this wonderful person who helped children so that they wouldn’t be harassed by parents, and other students…
GP: Right. Which sounds like a good thing.
MT: Oh yeah. It sounds really good because there’s not a single teacher I know that wants any child to be mistreated… And so all of these things sound really good.
GP: Right… So let me ask you this. Was Kevin, did you see him throughout the day? Do you recall him at all?
MT: Um. The last time I saw him was when I snapped the picture of him and Wallace Bachman* that was taken in the front row of the auditorium. I knew that I wanted to get his picture. Cameras were not outlawed the first year (2000)… Now in that picture Wallace Bachman is on the left and Kevin is on the right and Adam is giving him a lunch ticket. I took it just at the moment they were looking down and it wasn’t a real attractive… It was one of those pictures you really want to get.
GP: It’s a great picture. So there’s no way. Let me ask you this, there’s no way that Kevin Jennings could have been at this conference and not know that there was this explosive sexual speeches, talks, materials around the conference?
MT: This whole conference was his dream and his mindset. This was his vision from the very beginning.
GP: So there was no way that they would have had material there that he would not have, would you say approved of?
MT: Obviously, this is material that he advocates. Even today if you read the text of some of the books that they put out.
GP: That was up on my blog, by the way.
MT: He knew about that too. He knows about everything all along. Remember, the buck stops with him. He was the head of all of this.
GP: OK.
MT: He brought in all of the people that would agree with him as any administrator would do. You bring in people who agree with you who you can work with.
GP: Sure. Alright. Oh wow! That’s a powerful statement right there. That’s really powerful.

The "Fistgate" compendium (Warning - extremely explicit content)

Recently the fascinating blog Gateway Pundit has been running a superlative series of posts detailing the breaking scandal they named "Fistgate".  The growing scandal surrounds the "Safe School Czar" Kevin Jennings and his extremely controversial and radical past.  This guy is literally the last person we need as a "Safe School Czar".

To quote the Washington TimesWARNING: This editorial includes discussion of topics that are sexually graphic. Under usual circumstances, we would never entertain these subjects or the rancid language involved. In this case, however, a very unusual exception must be made because the issues are central to the background of a senior presidential appointee at the U.S. Department of Education who is in a position to influence how and what our children are taught in our nation's schools. Thus far, out of fear or squeamishness, there has been public hesitance to examine closely the beliefs of this individual because many are afraid even to touch the risky content. Our scruples cannot be used against us when traditional moral precepts need to be defended. Simply, the deep level of depravity involved in this subject cannot be portrayed without providing a couple of examples to illustrate the inappropriate content. Please do not read any further if you will be offended by sexually graphic language.

Conservative Heroines

Recently Sarah Palin visited Colorado Springs on the latest stop on book signing tour.  Common Cents is a huge fan of Governor Palin.  Recently Palin had 2,200 fans show up to see her in Fairfax, Virginia the heart of Democratic Northern Virginia.  And her autobiography, "Going Rouge" has already sold over 1 million copies and has been ensconced at the top of the best seller list.

Conservative blogger Michelle Malkin wrote a fascinating blog today about meeting Sarah Palin.  Common Cents is proud to share it with you.

We had frigid weather and several inches of Goreflakes on the ground here in Colorado Springs, but Sarah Palin lit up the town for a Borders signing earlier this evening that drew yet another massive crowd on her nationwide “Going Rogue” book tour.My family and I had the great honor and pleasure of meeting the governor, her husband Todd, adorable baby Trig, her lovely parents, relatives, and friends from near and far. Sarah’s energy is boundless and her ability to connect is unparalleled with any public figure I’ve met in covering politics over the last 17 years. I spoke, for example, with the first family in line for the book signing. They arrived at 4:30am with four kids in tow. Sarah, the father of the family told me, had written a personal letter sending prayers and good wishes for one of their children battling cancer. On the way out, I ran into a soldier in BDUs rushing through the door with Palin’s book in hand. Breathless, he asked: “Do you think there’s any hope I’ll get my book signed?” Given the special attentiveness Palin’s staff paid to military and their families (several Blue Star families got VIP access), I’m sure he got his autograph. There are countless stories like this in every single city she has visited. The governor and I talked briefly about Copenhagen (here’s her latest piece in the Washington Post calling on President Obama to stay home in the wake of ClimateGate), left-wing attacks on conservative politicians (Michele Bachmann is the latest target of specious ethics complaints), and the blessings of living outside the Beltway. Most of all, I’m glad I got a chance to simply say “Thank you” in person — for her strong conservative voice, for her relentless optimism in the face of unrelenting attacks, and for her public service as a defender of life and advocate of the American dream.
The New York Times' Stanley Fish wrote a superlative review of Sarah Palin and her book.  Read it here.

President Obama sets a new record!

President Obama has become the fastest U.S. President to drop below 50% in Gallup Polling history.  In fact President Obama has the lowest approval of any U.S. President at this point in their Presidency.  Amazingly, the White House engaged is in Heavy Spin mode at this time actually blaming Gallup Organization for their low Poll Numbers.

Right Truth has an excellent roundup of this news you can read here.

"There's no doubt Obama's 47 percent is mainly a result of the continuing bad economy," said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics. "But there is also a growing concern about government spending and debt, and a sense that Obama is trying to do too much, too soon."
He added: "President Obama has reason to be concerned about his ratings. Even in tough times, presidents have usually been able to stay above the critical 50 percent mark in the first year, when the public is most inclined to give the new incumbent the benefit of the doubt."
Obama officials have not always shown disdain for Gallup. During last year's presidential campaign, Obama adviser David Plouffe, trumpeted "the latest Gallup poll" to reporters because it showed that 53 percent of Americans did not find Obama Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, "trustworthy."  When Gallup began taking presidential approval polls 71 years ago, Franklin Roosevelt had been president for more than five years. During his remaining time in office, his job approval rating never fell below 48 percent.
The next 11 presidents, both Democrats and Republicans, all had higher job approval ratings than Obama at this stage of their tenure. Their ratings were:
  • George W. Bush, 86 percent
  • Bill Clinton, 52 percent
  • George H.W. Bush, 71 percent
  • Ronald Reagan, 49 percent
  • Jimmy Carter, 57 percent
  • Gerald Ford, 52 percent
  • Richard Nixon, 59 percent
  • Lyndon Johnson, 74 percent
  • John Kennedy, 77 percent
  • Dwight Eisenhower, 69 percent
  • Harry Truman, 49 percent

"December 7th 1941 - A date which will live in infamy"

“When the Arizona exploded, she rained sailors.” — Memories of a survivorToday marks the 68th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. This was the date that the United States entered World War II against the Axis powers (Japan, Germany and Italy). It is remarkable that they are all allies of the United States today!

The culmination of that battle was the sinking of the USS Arizona at the cost of over 1100 American men. They are forever entombed in the ship. The Arizona remains the most popular attraction in Hawaii, please visit when you are in the state. But we should never forget what happened today. Here are a couple of pictures taken from my honeymoon of the Arizona as she sits today under water.

Amazingly, the USS Arizona is still leaking oil after all these years!
The names of the 1177 Sailors and Marines who died on the Arizona:
Battleship Row: The White moorings are the positions of the ships on December 7th, 1941.
The USS Missouri is permanently moored next the the Arizona. The war ended on the decks of the Missouri in in 1945 in Tokyo Harbor.

"Hide the Decline" - The Great Global COOLING Coverup

The earth has been cooling for more than 10 years now.  This is one of the great cover ups of all time as a decade of brainwashing has convinced there is a such thing as Global Warming.  The commentary about the above graph is damming:
Figure 1. Two versions of Briffa MXD reconstruction, showing archived and climategate versions. The relevant IPCC 2001 graph, shown below, clearly does not show the decline in the Briffa MXD reconstruction.
Contrary to Gavin Schmidt’s claim that the decline is “hidden in plain sight”, the inconvenient data has simply been deleted.
The reason, as explained on Sep 22, 1999 by Michael Mann to coauthors in 938018124.txt, was to avoid giving “fodder to the skeptics”. Reasonable people might well disagree with Gavin Schmidt as to whether this is a “a good way to deal with a problem” or simply a trick.

VIDEO - A Charlie Brown Christmas:

President Obama is giving a Prime Time speech to the nation tonight at 8PM which will prempt the Charlie Brown Christmas.  Common Cents proudly brings you the moving conclusion.

"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not: for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.'"

'That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown".
