Waiting for Superman:

is an documentary that opens October 1 across America.  It highlights the abject failures of our Public School Systems and shows the lengths that parents will go through to get their children in charter schools where they will actually learn something.  The film mentions that out of 30 developed countries the US ranks 25th in Math and 21st in Science - but #1 in student confidence. Controversial yes - but Waiting for Superman" is a film that exposes the failures of our public school systems - and what to do about it.
"This generation will be less literate than the one before it"

UPDATE:

The most distorted and despicable campaign ad ever!

Has to be this one by Florida Representive Alan Grayson.  Remember Rep Grayson?  He was the one who famously stated the the Republican's Health Care plan is to "Die Quickly".

In this ad he viscously attacks his opponent Daniel Webster, a la Barack Obama, calling him "Taliban Dan".  Here is Grayson's ad...

And the actual video "DON'T TAKE THE ONE THAT SAYS..."

Even the most liberal and leftist of the networks MSNBC rubukes Grayson for his false ad:

The pursuit of happiness:

Why are we happy?  Are the markers that indicate whether or not we or not we will be happy?  As you know happiness is one of the most basic, and enjoyable traits we have and not surprisingly there are ways to be happy.

To bemused conservatives, it looks like yet another example of analytic overkill by the intelligentsia -- a jobs program for the (mostly liberal) academic boys (and girls) in the social sciences, whose quantitative tools have been brought to bear to prove the obvious. A survey by the Pew Research Center shows that conservatives are happier than liberals -- in all income groups. While 34 percent of all Americans call themselves "very happy," only 28 percent of liberal Democrats (and 31 percent of moderate or conservative Democrats) do, compared with 47 percent of conservative Republicans. This finding is niftily self-reinforcing: It depresses liberals. Election results do not explain this happiness gap. Republicans have been happier than Democrats every year since the survey began in 1972. Married people and religious people are especially disposed to happiness, and both cohorts vote more conservatively than does the nation as a whole. People in the Sun Belt -- almost entirely red states -- have sunnier dispositions than Northerners, which could have as much to do with sunshine as with conservatism. Unless sunshine makes people happy, which makes them conservative.
Read the rest of the story here.
Also consider religious people.  Did you know:
If you believe in the existence of a Supreme Being, a research suggests you will live a more contended life. I agree to this discovery because we will no longer aspire for material riches alone since true happiness can not be seen at them. At the same time, it would be easier to cope with life struggles as religious individuals depend to a Higher Being who will support and guide the weakening souls of the believers. Frustration, anger, grief and sorrow become too lightly to handle for people who believe in God. This has been shown in a study presented at the Royal Economic Society conference. According to the study, Europeans who believe in God experience a higher level of life satisfaction compared to those who merely depended on themselves. By yourself, you are always burdened of thinking ways to survive the challenges of life. Unlike if you lay down your worries and anxieties to someone whom you feel is the greatest in the universe, all fears become too easy to solve. For researcher Professor Andrew Clark of the Paris School of Economics, other factors of religious upbringing that may not necessarily be dependent on belief may promote future happiness. There is a sense of satisfaction to every blessing and a gratitude of thanksgiving for the little good things being achieved every day. People who believe in God, especially among Christians and Protestants, have a longer tenacity of handling pressures. They never give up to disappointments and continue life even at risk with grace and poise. On issues of unemployment, according to Dr. Orsolya Lelkes from the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research, religion serves a "buffer" to protect people from sudden shifts of attitudes resulting in manic depressions and disappointments.

Video: Glenn Beck - Mixing Government and Religion

Glenn Beck - Founders' Friday:
When you take a big government and combine it with the church to get people to do things that the state wants you to do- it always ends in mass death. Mixing big government with religion always ends badly..and tonight you will hear from someone who has been through it first-hand and believes we are dangerously close to heading down a similar path- Kitty Werthmann, who lived under Nazi rule in Austria.  Also joining Glenn tonight is Pastor Laurence White and "The Confirmation" author Ralph Reed.

VIDEO: Why we need a GOP Congress - Stephen Colbert testifies in front of Congress

Supposedly a "expert" witness because he worked on a farm for ONE DAY comedian Stephen Colbert made a mockery of a Congressional Hearing. Too busy to pass even one appropriation bill the Democratic Congress is a joke. Watch - this is what passes for serious political discussion in the Democrat Congress:

Political satirist Stephen Colbert took his show to Capitol Hill today, where he testified at a hearing about illegal immigrant farm workers and prevaricated that "the obvious answer is for all of us to stop eating fruits and vegetables." "And if you look at recent obesity statistics, you'll see that many Americans have already started," he quipped. Colbert said that, unfortunately, his gastroenterologist had informed him that they are "a necessary source of roughage." Colbert then offered to enter as evidence into the Congressional record a video of his colonoscopy. Colbert was invited to testify by the chairwoman of the House subcommittee on immigration, US Representative Zoe Lofgren, Democrat of California, who had appeared with him on The Colbert Report on Comedy Central to draw attention to the plight of illegal immigrant farm laborers.                   Read the rest of the story here.

Video: Republicans roll out their "Pledge to America"

Unveiled today in Northern Virginia - the GOPs blueprint if and when they take over Congress:
House Republicans Unveil 'Pledge to America,' Call for Tax and Spending Cuts
"The future of the country hangs in the balance"

Pledge to America Preamble:
America is more than a country.

America is an idea -- an idea that free people can govern themselves, that government's powers are derived from the consent of the governed, that each of us is endowed by their Creator with the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. America is the belief that any man or woman can -- given economic, political, and religious liberty -- advance themselves, their families, and the common good.

America is an inspiration to those who yearn to be free and have the ability and the dignity to determine their own destiny.

Whenever the agenda of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to institute a new governing agenda and set a different course.

These first principles were proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, enshrined in the Constitution, and have endured through hard sacrifice and commitment by generations of Americans.

In a self-governing society, the only bulwark against the power of the state is the consent of the governed, and regarding the policies of the current government, the governed do not consent.

An unchecked executive, a compliant legislature, and an overreaching judiciary have combined to thwart the will of the people and overturn their votes and their values, striking down long-standing laws and institutions and scorning the deepest beliefs of the American people.

An arrogant and out-of-touch ruling class of a few makes decisions, issues mandates, and enacts laws without accepting or requesting the input of the many.

Watch for the rest.

THE GOPs "Pledge to America"

Similiar to 1994s Contract with America the 2010 version - A Pledge to America is the Republican Party putting it's money where its mouth is - a philosophical statement of what the GOP will do once they are in power.

It begins with "America is more than a country - America is an idea an idea that free people can govern themselves, that government's powers are derived from the consent of the governed..."  CBS has obtained the entire 21 page "Pledge to America" and it is to be officially unveilled Thursday at a Virginia hardware store.

Hot Air has some of the highlights:
Read The Bill: We will ensure that bills are debated and discussed in the public square by publishing the text online for at least three days before coming up for a vote in the House of Representatives. No more hiding legislative language from the minority party, opponents, and the public. Legislation should be understood by all interested parties before it is voted on
Adhere To The Constitution: For too long, Congress has ignored the proper limits imposed by the Constitution on the federal government. Further, it has too often drafted unclear and muddled laws, leaving to an unelected judiciary the power to interpret what the law means and by what authority the law stands. This lack of respect for the clear Constitutional limits and authorities has allowed Congress to create ineffective and costly programs that add to the massive deficit year after year. We will require each bill moving through Congress to include a clause citing the specific constitutional authority upon which the bill is justified.
Make It Easier to Cut Spending: By forbidding amendments on spending bills, Democrats have denied lawmakers the opportunity to tighten Washington’s belt and slash wasteful and duplicative programs. Structure dictates behavior, so we will let any lawmaker — Democrat or Republican — offer amendments to reduce spending.
Advance Legislative Issues One at a Time: We will end the practice of packaging unpopular bills with “must-pass” legislation to circumvent the will of the American people. Instead, we will advance major legislation one issue at a time.
It will be interesting to see how the media spins this.  Do the Democrats really want this debate??  Stay tuned...

CBS has a very simple and pithy breakdown:
Jobs:
- Stop job-killing tax hikes
- Allow small businesses to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income
- Require congressional approval for any new federal regulation that would add to the deficit
- Repeal small business mandates in the new health care law.
Cutting Spending:
- Repeal and Replace health care
- Roll back non-discretionary spending to 2008 levels before TARP and stimulus (will save $100 billion in first year alone)
- Establish strict budget caps to limit federal spending going forward
- Cancel all future TARP payments and reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
Reforming Congress:
- Will require that every bill have a citation of constitutional authority
- Give members at least 3 days to read bills before a vote
Defense:
- Provide resources to troops
- Fund missile defense
- Enforce sanctions in Iran

Hands Down the best editorial page you will find is...

Investor's Business Daily.  IBD prints easy to read editorials that tout the benefits of open-markets and Capitalism.  Here is a sample:

Health Care: The Census Bureau reported last week that the number of uninsured Americans jumped to almost 51 million last year. Is this a reason to become panicked and reform the system? No. Yet "reform" is already here — in the form of a government-heavy overhaul the public did not.

Stimulus:  They're making a bundle inside the Beltway, while across the country it takes $2 million to create a pothole-filling job. Never has Washington spent so much to get so little real work.

Politics:  Might California's Central Valley, long treated as a environmental-policy dumping ground by Democrats, end up a change agent in election 2010? New polls there show a collapse in Sen. Barbara Boxer's prospects.

Poverty:  A new report comes as a punch in the gut for proud Americans: One in seven of us is poor, government data show. Surprised? Don't be. It's what happens when you kill the most productive parts of a country.

Common Ground:  President Obama ran for office promising solutions based on uniting Americans. Here's an obvious one: cut out the class warfare and rally a bipartisan majority to extend the full Bush tax cuts.

Big Government:  American first ladies often go to bat for good causes. Nothing wrong with that. But Michelle Obama's push for intrusive regulations, pressure tactics and one-size-fits-all solutions to end obesity goes too far.

Islamofascism:  A panel of national security experts concludes that Shariah law is a totalitarian ideology that is being used by advocates of tolerance to undermine the security of the United States.

Your Stimulus Dollar At Work:

Amazing.  It actually costs $2,018,181 (yes OVER TWO MILLION DOLLARS) of Federal Stimulus money to create a job in Los Angeles, CA.  Honestly, they would have been better off to drop the money from helicopters hovering over the city, or two throw it out of trucks rolling down the highway.  They actually could have given every job created or saved one million dollars and amazingly saved money.  And this is from the official audit:

CITY CONTROLLER RELEASES AUDITS OF HOW LOS ANGELES HAS USED FEDERAL STIMULUS MONEY
$111 Million in ARRA Funds Has Only Created 55 Jobs So Far
Continuing her efforts to ensure that taxpayer money is spent efficiently and effectively, City Controller Wendy Greuel released two audits today of how the City of Los Angeles has used American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds. The audits looked at the how the two departments that have received the largest amount of ARRA funding so far – the Department of Transportation (LADOT) and the Department of Public Works (DPW) – have used those funds and how many jobs were created. Los Angeles becomes the largest City in America to conduct an audit of how ARRA funds have been expended.
DPW has received $70.65 million and created or retained 45.46 jobs, though they are expected to create 238 jobs overall (the fraction of a job created or retained correlates to the number of actual hours works). LADOT has been awarded $40.8 million and created or retained 9 jobs, though they are expected to create 26 jobs overall. Overall, the Departments have received $111 million in federal stimulus funds out of the $594 million the City has been awarded so far and created or retained 54.46 jobs.
Some awesome work being done by Patterico's Pontifications.

Divide and Conquer - The Polarizer in Chief:

From Investor's Business Daily:

The Presidency: If any doubts remain that President Obama isn't the "post-partisan" uniter as advertised, witness his oddly personal attack on House Minority Leader John Boehner last week.
Acting more like a hired gun, the president stormed into Boehner's Ohio district to single out the Republican leader for rebuke, disparaging him as a country club elitist who cares only about "millionaires."
He called Boehner out no fewer than 10 times during a speech to Democrat supporters, an extraordinary display of political trench warfare for a sitting president — especially one who's not even up for re-election.
Boehner, on the other hand, is up for re-election — to an 11th term. And his return to Congress amid an expected GOP landslide would put House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's gavel in his hands.
Thus Boehner represents a major threat to Obama's agenda for radical change — and must be frozen as a target, personalized, ridiculed and polarized, according to the radical Alinsky playbook Obama is following.
"A few weeks ago, the Republican leader of the House came here to Cleveland and offered his party's answer to our economic challenges. Now, it would be one thing if he had admitted his party's mistakes during the eight years that they were in power, if they had gone off for a while and meditated, and come back and offered a credible new approach to solving our country's problems," Obama said.
"But that's not what happened," he added. "There were no new policies from Mr. Boehner. There were no new ideas. There was just the same philosophy that we had already tried during the decade that they were in power — the same philosophy that led to this mess in the first place: Cut more taxes for millionaires and cut more rules for corporations."
Here, Obama applies two of the late Chicago socialist Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals:" "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it," and "Ridicule the opposition." "Mr. Boehner," the target, should have gone off and "meditated" on his and his party's "mistakes," Obama snipes, instead of criticizing his own policies.
Alinsky, who despised American capitalism, also advised community organizers like Obama to co-opt the middle class in their revolution to bring about "economic justice." If they could get the middle class, along with the poor, to envy the rich, they could control the largest voting bloc and seize all the power they'd need.
Rub raw the resentments of the people," Alinsky espoused. And few do that better than Obama. "I believe we ought to make the tax cuts for the middle class permanent, (but) the Republican leader of the House doesn't want to stop there," Obama said. "Make no mistake: He and his party believe we should also give a permanent tax cut to the wealthiest 2% of Americans."
"So let me be clear to Mr. Boehner and everybody else: We should not hold middle-class tax cuts hostage any longer," he went on. "They're asking us to settle for a status quo of stagnant growth and a shrinking middle class."
Obama then mischaracterized the across-the-board Bush tax cuts as "tax cuts for the wealthy" (Bush cut taxes on everyone who paid them) and argued "we can't afford the $700 billion price tag" that might be the effect of making them permanent.
Of course that estimate is over 10 years and pales compared with the $3 trillion that extending the Bush cuts for everyone but the "rich" would cost.
It also should be noted that $700 billion over 10 years is dwarfed by what Obama blew on his $862 billion nonstimulating stimulus in a single year. Moreover, his figure is based on static revenue scoring that erroneously assumes upper-income tax cuts won't expand the tax base.
There was more class warfare with Obama casting his failed stimulus plan as a choice between creating construction jobs and supporting the working class or giving breaks to the wealthy. With such dogma, the "post-partisan candidate" showed his true colors.
Obama is a demagogue, perhaps the most radical to occupy the Oval Office, as we warned during the 2008 campaign. We pointed out, for example, how Obama rallied Nevada supporters to attack GOP opponent John McCain and his supporters: "I want you to argue with them and get in their face," he said, in a naked attempt to "fan hostilities," something else Alinsky advised from his bag of agitation tricks.
This is the moral compass Obama operates by.
