Video: Republicans roll out their "Pledge to America"

Unveiled today in Northern Virginia - the GOPs blueprint if and when they take over Congress:
House Republicans Unveil 'Pledge to America,' Call for Tax and Spending Cuts
"The future of the country hangs in the balance"

Pledge to America Preamble:
America is more than a country.

America is an idea -- an idea that free people can govern themselves, that government's powers are derived from the consent of the governed, that each of us is endowed by their Creator with the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. America is the belief that any man or woman can -- given economic, political, and religious liberty -- advance themselves, their families, and the common good.

America is an inspiration to those who yearn to be free and have the ability and the dignity to determine their own destiny.

Whenever the agenda of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to institute a new governing agenda and set a different course.

These first principles were proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, enshrined in the Constitution, and have endured through hard sacrifice and commitment by generations of Americans.

In a self-governing society, the only bulwark against the power of the state is the consent of the governed, and regarding the policies of the current government, the governed do not consent.

An unchecked executive, a compliant legislature, and an overreaching judiciary have combined to thwart the will of the people and overturn their votes and their values, striking down long-standing laws and institutions and scorning the deepest beliefs of the American people.

An arrogant and out-of-touch ruling class of a few makes decisions, issues mandates, and enacts laws without accepting or requesting the input of the many.

Watch for the rest.

Too bad they didn't get Newt to write it.

Would have been shorter, more concise, and just as worthless.

Got to Christie meetings, take notes.

Yeah... It is gutless. I read it very carefully, and wrote a review on my blog. In short it is too little to convince me that the GOP has any intention to change the agenda in Washington DC. There are no real solutions, rather a smattering of prescriptions for the symptoms of the problem... but as Reagan said, the government IS the problem. They need to go much farther than this worthless pledge.

Christie? I'd like to shoot that hypocritical ass..in the ass. You do know that he's in favor of gun control and regulations right? Sorry..this old boy believes that gun control means controlling your breathing, and smooth trigger pull. This old boy also believes that the ONLY regulation/permit we need, we already have. It's called the 2nd Amendment. The ONLY gun law I will support is background checks. Because I don't want some escaped felon or even released felon to be able to walk into a gun store and buy a gun. Other than that? No restrictions. none at all. If I want to own and drive a tank..that's my RIGHT.

Actually I wouldn't mind owning a tank..I could take to driving it back and forth in rush hour traffic and call traffic jams 'Crunchies'. *Very Evil Grin*

Listen, I believe it is going to take some time to turn this around. We have been asleep for a long time in this country. This pledge might not have everything in it conservatives want but like Mark Levin said it is a start. This is not a sprint but a marathon and it will take three to four more elections cycles to weed out the socialists...I mean progressives from DC.
