SEX, LIES AND BRIBERY:

Remember the unmitigated furor in 2006 over then GOP Congressman Mark Foley sending racy text messages to a Congressional Page. Foley was forced to resign and for weeks the media hung the controversy over the GOP. It was cited as one of the main reasons the Democrats regained complete control of Congress in 2006. Now it turns out Foley's Democratic replacement has a much larger scandal. Turns out he is involved in paying off his Mistress $121,000 in illegal hush money, bribing her to remain silent. What is amazing is the Mainstream News Media has practically ignored this story.

As reported by ABCNews.com moments ago (emphasis added, h/t NB reader Chuck Vieth, photo courtesy ABCNews.com): West Palm Beach Congressman Tim Mahoney (D-FL), whose predecessor resigned in the wake of a sex scandal, agreed to a $121,000 payment to a former mistress who worked on his staff and was threatening to sue him, according to current and former members of his staff who have been briefed on the settlement, which involved Mahoney and his campaign committee. Mahoney, who is married, also promised the woman, Patricia Allen, a $50,000 a year job for two years at the agency that handles his campaign advertising, the staffers said. [...] Mahoney was elected two years ago following the abrupt resignation of his disgraced predecessor, Republican Mark Foley, whose lewd internet messages to teenage boys and Congressional pages created a national outrage. The affair between Mahoney and Allen began, according to the current and former staffers, in 2006 when Mahoney was campaigning for Congress against Foley, promising "a world that is safer, more moral." [...] In a February letter to Mahoney, Coleman alleged sexual harassment, intimidation, humiliation and charged that the Congressman's behavior masked a "dark and depraved personality,"Read more about the scandal here and here.
Congressman Mahoney is a credit and to the Democratic Congress record low 9% approval rating. It will be interesting to see how the media continue to ignore this scandal.

Well, what's good for the GOP goose ain't necessarily good for the Dems gander.

And I was wondering if you could please do me a little favor and let me know if when you come back on m site to comment does my comments box automatically remember you, or do you have to go through the inconvenience of signing in again?

Trying to suss it all out in Texas,

We just have to remember, if it's a Republican it's a scandal, if it's a Dem, it's a "private matter". I actually heard him say this today in a statement, that it was a matter between him and his wife. I can only assume that is what he was saying when he was running against Foley, when he had the time that is, what with two mistresses and all.

I saw it on Fox last night and noticed that it was conspicuously missing from the Lib media. It doesn't fit with their agenda.
