HAPPY 200th BIRTHDAY PRESIDENT LINCOLN

Today, February 12 is our 16th President Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday. Lincoln is regarded by many as one of our greatest presidents and his the story of his life has been the subject of literally thousands of books. Lincoln never received more than two years of formal education but was able to teach himself to read, study the law and become a successful lawyer. Lincoln gained national fame via his famous debates with Stephen Douglas where they debated the subject of slavery. After serving just one term in the US House of Representatives he ran for Senate where he was defeated but two years later was elected our 16th President. Beginning with South Carolina 11 stated left the Union and later the Civil War started which lasted some four bloody years. Everyone knows Lincoln as the man who freed the slaves via his Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. Lincoln was one of the founders of the Republican Party which was founded on the basis of putting an end to slavery. Lincoln fired seven Union generals before eventually settling on US Grant who eventually won the Civil War. Just days after the end of the Civil War he was assassinated in Ford's Theater in Washington DC. Likely the United States would be a two separate countries with Abraham Lincoln and we all should be grateful for his presidency. Happy birthday President Lincoln!

It would have been interesting to see how history would have been changed had he not been assassinated.

I added your blog to my blogroll. I'm sorry I didn't catch your comment earlier. My comment system will flag any message with a URL in it as spam so I didn't read it until today.

I would be honored to be added to yours.

Great post on Lincoln.. What a great President! Thanks for the link to Investor's Business Daily.. one quote that stuck out:

"Lincoln never let his power and position as president go to his head. Though he had the power of a king, he acted just as much as a commoner, even to a fault.

Shortly after being re-elected in 1864, he told a journalist who was slated to become his private secretary: "I am very sure that if I do not go away from here a better man I shall go away a wiser man for having learned here what a very poor sort of man I am."

Although many would like to think BHO is another Lincoln - this is one of the characteristic where he is vastly different than Lincoln. BHO wants the power of a king and is "ready to rule." He believes he deserves this power, Why? He explains the reason in his own words, "because, I won".

I haven't seen an ounce of humility in BHO yet.

Lincoln was one of the worst presidents of all time. OVERRATED! What you learned in grade school is no who lincoln really was only part of it.
