thank you for the links! a word for those who may have been a two income family by necessity and now find themselves down to 1 salary.

this happened to us and I am now teaching my son at home through a charter public school that offers home based instruction. The courses are online, they send you all the books, We got better books than in the public school, instead of mimeographed worksheets my son has his own workbooks..it is very easy to be a learning coach which is what they call it, you supervise the exams, you co teach certain subjects following along with your own teacher workbooks. and you can stress things you think are important in US History etc,
best thing here in AZ is it was all free. (If you have low income they will reimburse you for DSL access as well)
in AZ the money is tied to the child NOT the local school.
the hardcover texts get mailed back at the end of the year but the online courses are still available and all the workbooks, and many of the art and science supplies were keepers.
We did awesome fun experiments, they have enriched curriculum for gifted kids as well.
I am a recovering Dem also awakening to the realization that the public schools are not some core value, they are NOT underfunded, they are NOT doing their jobs and they are in fact totally politicized now. I was worried I wouldnt have what it takes to be a learning coach but it is wonderful and I feel , well, validated! son made Honor Roll too :0)
I highly recommend this for any family who is out of work now and discouraged, take your life in your hands and embrace educating your children yourself with the tools and the resources your tax dollars are already funding elsewhere.

I love that you post these. It's very kind of you, especially in this bad economy. I hope it helps people. I've been without a job before and it feels like it's going to last forever. You're doing a real service.

In other news, you promised me a link exchange months ago and I held up my end of the deal...reciprocation?
