Reminder - it was the 13th Amendment that abolished slavery

Passed by Republicans and bitterly opposed by Democrats the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution in 1865 formally abolished slavery. That along with the 14th Amendment and 15th Amendment made Black Americans citizens with the right to vote. President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, that came into force in 1863, ended slavery in the Confederate States that were at war with the Union.
