A total solar eclipse will dazzle people across North America in what's been described as "our planet's greatest spectacle". The perfect alignment of Earth, the sun and the moon, which is due to be seen on 8 April, will plunge much of the continent into darkness. But people in parts of the UK will be able to see a partial eclipse too. Sky's Thomas Moore looks at the path of the phenomena, its timeline and explains why it occurs.
