Introducing "Issues and Insights"

The editors of Investors.com have created a new editorial page called "Issue and Insights" which is an amazing read.  You can spend minutes on I&I or even hours on each visit. A sampling of some of those editorials below:

When it was clear that our liberties were going to be violated by public officials’ overreaction to the 2020 novel coronavirus outbreak, we considered encouraging Americans to engage in civil disobedience against the unlawful orders that were about to be issued. We regret that we did not write that editorial. We have no such hesitation in 2024, though.

When the COVID test positivity rate surged last month, surpassing the summer peaks of 2022 and 2023, a few voices insisted that we needed to go back to the asinine rules of 2020............

A Most Obvious Lie
While at times it’s been hard to pin down just what Kamala Harris stands for – somehow she’s both a tough prosecutor and an advocate for defunding the police – she is at her core a hard-left progressive. But her campaign team, which includes the mainstream media, is putting in the extra hours to recast her as a centrist.

Don’t fall for the lie.

In the weeks following her party coronation, never-received-a-vote-outside-of-California Harris has been presented to voters as a “sober-minded centrist.” Other media outlets and personalities have eagerly covered her fundamental transition.........

Properly packed survival kits can save lives. Those wanting to survive the Left Coast would be advised to take with them into the wilderness a plastic tube tent, an emergency sleeping bag, a fire source, tinder, a signaling device, light, water, a knife, duct tape and a few other things.

Altogether, the items will weigh about two pounds, can sustain life for 72 hours or more, and are compact enough to be stuffed into a resealable plastic bag.

Well, maybe not in California. Consumer-grade plastic bags have become prohibited goods.......

Was Ist Verboten

We’ve noticed over the last couple of decades a repeating cycle in which finger-wagging scolds tell us that we need to drop some of the conveniences of modernity as sacrifices to Gaia, our Mother Earth. Two examples that have come around more frequently than Halley’s Comet have been the loony broadsides launched against air conditioning and showers.

Now add to that a campaign aimed at refrigeration, because it causes “wide-ranging climate implications.”

Nicola Twilley, author of “Frostbite: How Refrigeration Changed Our Food, Our Planet, and Ourselves,” seems to be on a crusade to reverse the benefits of refrigeration. In an interview last month with ABC News, she discussed the “bigger downside” of refrigeration in regard to “our environment.”

No Tips Tax Plus Tariffs Make For A Good … And Original … Debate

Our vice president’s clueless Kamalanomics platform thus far recalls the aphorism incorrectly attributed (as most such attributions are) to Samuel Johnson critiquing an aspiring writer’s work: It’s both good and original. But what’s good is not original, and what’s original is not good.

Here’s an “original” idea: Take an overheated, unaffordable market (housing), and a probably stagflationary economy with a petering job market and still glowing embers of underlying inflation, and dump perhaps hundreds of billions of dollars of newly printed money into it.

One could elaborate, but the folly should be fairly clear on its face. Inflation would not just heat up in the housing market, but since money is fungible, throughout the economy.
