Egg Prices Plummet
Figures released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture show that the average cost of one dozen eggs is now significantly cheaper than in recent days. The economic indicator website Trading Economics shows that a dozen eggs were $5.51 on Tuesday, more than $2 cheaper than "an all-time high of 8.17 in March of 2025." This represents a decrease of nearly 33 percent.
U.S. mortgage rates drop for a sixth week to lowest since December
The average US 30-year mortgage rate declined for a sixth straight week to the lowest level since early December, sparking a pickup in purchase and refinancing activity.
The contract rate on a 30-year mortgage slipped 6 basis points to 6.67% in the first week of March, according to Mortgage Bankers Association data released Wednesday. The rate on a 15-year fixed mortgage decreased to 6.04%, the lowest since October, while the average on a 30-year jumbo was the cheapest in more than five months.
Inflation rate eased to 2.8% in February, lower than expected
Prices for goods and services moved up less than expected in February, providing some relief as consumers and businesses worry about the looming impact tariffs might have on inflation, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday.
The consumer price index, a wide-ranging measure of costs across the U.S. economy, ticked up a seasonally adjusted 0.2% for the month, putting the annual inflation rate at 2.8%, according to the Labor Department agency. The all-item CPI had increased 0.5% in January.
