Crowds faced down officers in a tense overnight standoff, vowing to stop the migrants leaving the city after arriving by small boat. They blocked key roads for hours and pledged to stay through the night in the second major anti‑migrant protest of the weekend. The dinghy, reportedly carrying around 140 migrants, is believed to have completed one of the longest small‑boat crossings, with landings as far west as Hampshire a rarity.
