Amazing: NC Democrat Governor Bev Perdue calls on 2012 Elections to be "Suspended"
What do you do when you know your side is going to get wiped out? If you a Democrat you call for the next elections to be suspended. Audio is below:
NC Governor Bev Perdue asks for 2012 elections to be suspended:
Thanks Obamacare!
Well they did it to gasoline ($1.70 on Inauguration Day) and now they are doing it to Health Care. Reversing a several year decline (yes decline) in the rate Health Care Costs, 2011 is seeing an increase of over 9%. Health Care had been rising at only a 2.9% rate in 2010 but thanks to new mandates and regulation soon to come we are back to over 9% increases. And wasn't the whole point of Obamacare to save us money? Investors Business Daily put out another superlative editorial on the effects of Obamacare:
Posted 09/27/2011 06:42 PM ETRead the rest of the editorial here.
Health Care: Until now, many of the fears about ObamaCare have been theoretical. But this year's 9% spike in premiums is concrete evidence of the substantial harm it's already doing to our health care system.
As soon as the Kaiser Family Foundation's annual report on insurance premiums was released, ObamaCare defenders dismissed its most troubling finding: Insurance premiums for family coverage shot up an average $1,482 this year.
Nothing to worry about, they said, it's just a response to higher health costs and bad forecasts. But wait a minute! Didn't Obama promise his signature health reform plan would lower insurance premiums? As a matter of fact he did, saying just before he signed it into law that ObamaCare would "bring down the cost of health care for families, for businesses and for the federal government."
Not only did that not happen, ObamaCare has reversed a years-long trend toward smaller annual premium increases (see chart), suggesting insurers finally started to figure out how to get costs down.
The only thing that changed this year was the leading edge of ObamaCare's hurricane of mandates and regulations. Insurers now have to let children stay on their parents' plans until age 26. Annual coverage limits have been forced up. And Washington bureaucrats are busy writing rules on what insurers must cover.
There were plenty of warnings that these "reforms" would quickly push up prices. Hewitt Associates predicted premiums would climb 8.8% in 2011 — highest in five years — blaming reform for at least part of that rise.
Even the AARP, which strongly backed ObamaCare, told its own employees last November that they could expect higher premiums, in part thanks to the reform

Video: ManBearPig, Climategate and Watermelons
Interview with James Delingpole is a bestselling British author and blogger who helped expose the Climategate scandal back in 2009. Reason.tv caught up with Delingpole in Los Angeles recently to learn more about his entertaining and provocative new book Watermelons: The Green Movement's True Colors. At its very roots, argues Delingpole, climate change is an ideological battle, not a scientific one. In other words, it's green on the outside and red on the inside. At the end of the day, according to Delingpole, the "watermelons" of the modern environmental movement do not want to save the world. They want to rule it.

"The Limbaugh Tax - 'Tax the Democrats' "
Brilliant idea by Rush Limbaugh "The Doctor of Democracy".... 'Tax the Democrats'
AP Fact Check: No secretaries do not pay a higher tax rate than millionaires
You've heard President Obama state this countless times - the idea that Warren Buffet's secretary pays a higher tax rate than he does. Associated Press did a fact checks and the results are about what you expect.
Read the rest of the story here.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama makes it sound as if there are millionaires all over America paying taxes at lower rates than their secretaries. "Middle-class families shouldn't pay higher taxes than millionaires and billionaires," Obama said Monday. "That's pretty straightforward. It's hard to argue against that." The data tell a different story. On average, the wealthiest people in America pay a lot more taxes than the middle class or the poor, according to private and government data. They pay at a higher rate, and as a group, they contribute a much larger share of the overall taxes collected by the federal government. There may be individual millionaires who pay taxes at rates lower than middle-income workers. In 2009, 1,470 households filed tax returns with incomes above $1 million yet paid no federal income tax, according to the Internal Revenue Service. That, however, was less than 1 percent of the nearly 237,000 returns with incomes above $1 million. In his White House address Monday, Obama called on Congress to increase taxes by $1.5 trillion as part of a 10-year deficit reduction package totaling more than $3 trillion. He proposed that Congress overhaul the tax code and impose what he called the "Buffett rule," named for billionaire investor Warren Buffett. The rule says, "People making more than $1 million a year should not pay a smaller share of their income in taxes than middle-class families pay." "Warren Buffett's secretary shouldn't pay a higher tax rate than Warren Buffett. There is no justification for it," Obama said. "It is wrong that in the United States of America, a teacher or a nurse or a construction worker who earns $50,000 should pay higher tax rates than somebody pulling in $50 million." Buffett wrote in a recent piece for The New York Times that the tax rate he paid last year was lower than that paid by any of the other 20 people in his office.
This year, households making more than $1 million will pay an average of 29.1 percent of their income in federal taxes, including income taxes and payroll taxes, according to the Tax Policy Center, a Washington think tank. Households making between $50,000 and $75,000 will pay 15 percent of their income in federal taxes. Lower-income households will pay less. For example, households making between $40,000 and $50,000 will pay an average of 12.5 percent of their income in federal taxes. Households making between $20,000 and $30,000 will pay 5.7 percent.

IBD: 5 Myths Behind President Obama's Infrastructure Spending Push:
Investor's Business Daily does it again with an outstanding piece on the disinformation about infrastructure spending. This should be required reading:
Shortly after the $830 billion stimulus bill was enacted in 2009, President Obama boasted that it included the "largest new investment since President Eisenhower built the Interstate Highway System," and said it would "help states create a 21st century infrastructure" and "fuel growth in an industry that's been hard hit."
Now, nearly 2 1/2 years later, Obama wants another $50 billion as part of his American Jobs Act to create jobs and fix "our crumbling infrastructure." But he still seems to buy into several myths about the nation's infrastructure.
• Infrastructure spending is declining: "We have deferred tough decisions," the president said last fall, and "our shortsightedness has come due."
But inflation-adjusted infrastructure spending climbed 23% from 1990 to 2007, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Federal, state and local governments spend a combined total of more than $356 billion a year. It was 2.4% of GDP in 2007, not far from the 3% in 1960, when the U.S. was first building the interstate highway system.
To be sure, groups such as the American Society of Civil Engineers have consistently urged greater spending to improve deficient or obsolete roads, bridges and water supply systems.
• Our infrastructure is falling apart: Touting the new jobs bill, Obama complained about "our crumbling roads and our crumbling bridges." This alarm has been sounded for decades.
In 1988, a Federal Highway Administration official said America faced a looming "bridge crisis." In 1993, President Clinton pushed in vain for $100 billion more infrastructure spending to avoid a "crisis." A 2005 USA Today headline screamed: "Report: Nation's in frastructure crumbling." In 2009, the New York Times reported that "U.S. infrastructure is in dire straits." But the dire warnings never seemed to come true.
"It is crumbling somewhere, but not everywhere," said Samuel Staley, a Reason Foundation transportation expert and associate director at Florida State University's DeVoe Moore Center. "Some states have done really well with their transportation money."
• We're falling behind China: Obama told Congress that we shouldn't "sit back and watch China build newer airports and faster railroads."
Others say the comparison isn't apt, because countries like China and India are pretty much just getting started. Despite all the money they're spending, these countries have horrific traffic problems. Beijing scored 99 out of 100 in IBM's "commuter pain" index; New Delhi scored 81. Far down on the list is Los Angeles at 25 and New York at 19.

The Solyndra Scandal:
Blogger Extraordinaire Michelle Malkin has been ALL OVER the Solyndra Scandal where a Solar Panel manufacture went bankrupt even after receiving over $500 million in government stimulus money. Her latest column is outstanding!
With the scandalous bankruptcy of Solyndra (a shady California solar power company that received $535 million in stimulus funds and is now under investigation by the FBI) hanging overhead, President Obama wisely whitewashed any mention of “green jobs” out of his latest address to Congress.Read the rest of her column on Solyndra here.
But buried in the details of his latest government jobs bill released this week — Spawn of the Spendulus, Porky’s II, Night of the Keynesian Dead — are yet more big green boondoggles that will reward cronies, waste taxpayer dollars and make no dent in the jobless rate.
After pouring half a billion bucks into Solyndra, the company filed for Chapter 11 last month and laid off 1,110 employees. Obama administration officials met with Solyndra execs at least 20 times; the green cheerleader-in-chief personally visited and promoted the company in 2009 before his administration fast-tracked approval for the loans.
Solyndra is now the third solar company to go belly-up this year. Yet the Energy Department is doubling down on failure. As the FBI and House GOP investigators launch a probe into Enron-style accounting problems with Solyndra’s books, DOE is doling out more than $850 million in new loan guarantees for another California solar firm sponsored by NextEra Energy, along with nearly $200 million more for separate solar manufacturing facilities on the West Coast.
Obama claims new “investments” in environmentally friendly school construction projects will put thousands of Americans back to work immediately. (Never mind that Big Labor-backed rules and executive orders will raise the cost of the projects, slow their implementation and freeze out the vast majority of non-union contractors.) Among the new green pork initiatives: $25 billion for green roofs, green cleaning, installation of renewable energy generation and heating systems, and “modernization, renovation, or repair activities related to energy efficiency and renewable energy.

George W. Bush Interview - The events after 9-11
George W. Bush was recently interviewed by USA Today about the events on and immediately after September 11, 2011.
Saturday, Bush and his wife, Laura, will lay a wreath at the Pentagon and speak at the dedication of the Shanksville, Pa., memorial to Flight 93. Sunday, he'll attend the New York 9/11 ceremony.Bush said he is concerned the nation is "becoming isolationist" and will "grow weary to the point where we say it doesn't matter" whether young democracies survive."Democracies, when they take hold, yield peace," Bush said. The Middle East "is the part of the world that needs peace, and we'll be successful — unless, of course, we quit," he said. "My concern is that isolationist tendencies … cause America to retreat from the world."Except for his wedding and twin daughters' birth, he said, 9/11 was "the most profound moment" of his life: "It will always be vivid."Bush also shared his thoughts on:•What he remembers most about that day after he learned of the attacks in a Sarasota, Fla., second-grade classroom. "I, of course, remember (White House Chief of Staff Andy Card) whispering in my ear. I remember the faces of the children. … It was a moment of clarity because people were going to watch how I reacted, and I had enough experience with crises to understand that if you're head of an organization, it's important to project calm in the initial stages of a crisis."•His first thoughts. "The key thing that I tried to do was to say let's gather facts so we know what's happening. The problem that I faced — and the truth of the matter is, many in my administration faced — was during certain moments during the day, there was a fog of war, and the information flow was just really inaccurate. … We needed to take steps to make sure that the attack was a four-plane attack, not a 10-plane attack. We just didn't know. … My mind eventually became focused on finding out who did it and seeking justice, but initially it was respond and prevent."•Watching on TV as thousands of Americans died. "There were moments when I said I'd like to be alone and just thinking through the ramifications and making sure that my thoughts were clear. I prayed for the victims. I prayed for our country. I would see people jump off buildings, and it just was horrific, but I was also determined to lead the country."•His televised remarks from Florida and Louisiana. "The first two statements were on the fly. I didn't realize I had missed the mark. … I just did the best I could do given the circumstances, but obviously it wasn't the best setting for a president to try to calm the nerves of the country. I wanted to speak from the Oval Office. I wasn't going to address our nation from a bunker. It would have been a huge psychological victory for the people who attacked."•What he learned about himself. "The job of the president was to say here are the facts, here's what we're dealing with, and deal with them. Not to feel sorry for yourself, or not to say why did it happen under my watch? That's not a leadership trait that is admirable. … I felt like I had the capacity to deal with the crisis, and you don't know until it happens. When I look back on it, I don't feel a sense of being overwhelmed."•Whether he wishes he had done anything differently. "Not that I can think of. I mean, I think the response, laying out tools so that future presidents can have a better chance to protect the country, it's a legacy that I hope historians will say, 'It's a good legacy: He used tools that he thought were necessary and then he helped work with the Congress to codify them, so future presidents, if they so choose, can use those tools.' "•The night of 9/11, when an erroneous report of an incoming enemy aircraft prompted Secret Service agents to move him and Laura Bush from their bed to the White House's underground bunker. "My mind was just churning over the events, the response, the information that had been given through a variety of National Security Council meetings. … And then just as I was kind of dozing off, (a Secret Service agent said) 'Mr. President,' and off we go. I had the T-shirt on and the running shorts and grabbed Laura, who didn't have her contacts on, grabbed (dog) Barney. We must have been looking like a motley crew as we headed down. … It was almost surreal, these big pneumatic doors as you're heading into the bowels of the White House, guys in black uniforms and guns.

Jobs: In his speech Thursday, the president is expected to announce a Stimulus 2.0 package said to cost $300 billion. But why should anyone expect this to work any better than the $4 trillion in stimulus already in the economy?
Medical Spending: Yet another study finds that ObamaCare is going to increase costs. And this one wasn't issued by an opponent of the Democrats' reforms. In fact, one of its authors is an ObamaCare apologist.
The Law: Operation Gunwalker, the rogue ATF operation to arm Mexico's cartels, extends now to three White House officials. A bell goes off with the one named Dan Restrepo.
Politics: In a new campaign ad, Ron Paul questions the bona fides of the Texas governor as a true GOP conservative, charging he once turned his back on the Reagan revolution. The truth is somewhat different.
Incivility: Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa Jr. introduced President Obama to union hordes by declaring war on the Tea Party and offering him an army against Republicans. Why no condemnation from "The Great Uniter"?
Corruption: A top bundler and major investor in a now-bankrupt green company made multiple White House visits before he got a guaranteed stimulus loan that the administration monitored to ensure it was granted.
Journalism: That the media reek of liberal bias has been proved so many times in so many ways it's now axiomatic. Less certain is whether that bias affects public opinion. Now comes a study that says it does — big time.

Hat Tip to MSNBC for this one. You can watch the entire 108 minute GOP Presidential Debate from the Reagan Presidential Library in California right here:
Texas Wildfires: Barbarians to the Rescue:
Remember the other day when VP Biden called the Tea Party and Conservatives "barbarians"? Well those barbarians are organizing an effort to help with the Texas Wildfires. From Citizen Patriot Response:
TEXAS WILDFIRES:
CALL TO ACTION
More than 1,000 homes have burned near Bastrop in one of the most destructive and largest fires in Texas history. Over 180 fires have erupted across our state in the past week alone.
Citizen Patriot Response requests Tea Party, 9-12, and other liberty-minded individuals and groups to organize efforts to assist the roughly 1,200 firefighters working on
the frontlines of this historical outbreak of Texas wildfires.
Citizen Patriot Response is preparing to begin delivering cold bottles of water to firefighters in the Bastrop area in an effort to do our part. Many other organizations and
individuals in Texas are doing the same. We need support, we need more efforts
initiated across the state, and we need communication and collaboration between
group leaders to ensure that men and women fighting the Texas wildfires have
full support.
The Citizen Patriot Response headquarters and shelter is located in Hays county and now has limited space available for Texans left homeless by the wildfires.

Classic Rush Limbaugh "When will Obama repudiate Hoffa? - Never"
RUSH: So everybody's wondering when is Obama gonna repudiate Hoffa? How do we know that Obama did not suggest to Hoffa that he say what he said? What do you mean repudiate? He went up there after Hoffa said what he said and basically praised him. I mean, what is this, when is Obama gonna repudiate Hoffa? Obama wrote it for Hoffa! Who the hell do you think is inspiring these sons-of-bitches anyway? Quote, unquote. Well, I mean if Hoffa can use the lingo, and if Obama can find nothing wrong with it, I mean what are we talking about here, folks? And Obama's gonna be making a speech to those sons-of-bitches on Thursday night. Yeah, Cookie asked me, "Should I delete the word 'bitches'?" No. Hoffa used it. This is your Democrat Party.
By the way, greetings and welcome. It's El Rushbo, and I feel confident that your kids that are worth anything are back in school, so I don't mind using the lingo. If your kids are not in school they are worthless kids anyway and probably already know the lingo before I do. And, yes, I'm in a fit to be tied mood today about a whole bunch of stuff so just bear with it.
You probably heard Jimmy Hoffa's attack on the Tea Party at the Labor Day speech in Detroit and Obama's praise of Hoffa afterwards. Everybody says, "Well, when is Obama gonna refute Hoffa?" Hell, Obama wrote it for Hoffa. Obama suggested it. Before we get to what was said, don't you just love the irony? Here we have James Hoffa and Barack Hussein Obama, mmm, mmm, mmm, commemorating Labor Day in Detroit, a city that epitomizes the disaster brought about by the alliance of labor unions and government. Here is a city that is crumbling. They are bulldozing parts of the city. It's a city run by Democrats and unions for 50 years. What is the unemployment rate in Detroit? Something like 50%. Detroit is one of our strong markets. The unemployment rate in Detroit is astronomically high. They're tearing half the city down. They're leaving it for farmland. Obama goes there to celebrate the triumph of organized labor. You know, it's perfect, really, because what you have there is everything you need to know about unions. Everything you need to know about 'em. And as you may have heard by now, ladies and gentlemen, in his introduction of Mr. Obama, Jimmy Hoffa said... wait, why read it? Why not let you hear it. But before we play Jimmy Hoffa let's put this in the proper context, shall we?
The Seven States that will determine the 2012 Presidential Election:
Early Electoral College Math. Larry J. Sabato recently published an outstanding article in the Wall St. Journal where he detailed the way that the 2012 election will be determined. Sabato divided the US States into firewall states, lean Democrat/Republican and toss ups. The synopsis:
Democrat Firewall: (177 Electoral Votes)
Barring a Carter-like collapse, President Obama is assured of 175 electoral votes from 12 deep-blue states and the District of Columbia: California (55 electoral votes), Connecticut (7), Delaware (3), Hawaii (4), Illinois (20), Maryland (10), Massachusetts (11), New Jersey (14), New York (29), Rhode Island (4), Vermont (3), Washington state (12) and Washington, D.C. (3). Three more states are not quite as certain, but still likely Democratic: Maine (4), Minnesota (10) and Oregon (7). Even though Minnesota is competitive enough to vote Republican under the right set of conditions, it is the state with the longest Democratic presidential streak, dating to 1976Lean Democrat: (51 Electoral Votes)
Four other states usually vote Democratic for president, but they're hardly a sure thing: Michigan (16), New Mexico (5), Pennsylvania (20) and Wisconsin (10). A low Hispanic vote in 2012 could flip New Mexico, as Al Gore carried it by only 366 votes in 2000 and a dedicated effort by George W. Bush flipped it in 2004. In Michigan, economic problems might cause voters to cool on Democrats. Wisconsin, narrowly Democratic in 2000 and 2004, is a cauldron of unpredictable countertrends. And although Pennsylvania has frustrated all GOP attempts to win it over since 1988, recent polls have shown weakness for Mr. Obama there. These 51 electoral votes will be GOP targets if conditions in the fall of 2012 approximate today's.Republican Firewall: (105 Electoral Votes)
Almost any sentient GOP nominee will carry Alabama (9), Alaska (3), Arkansas (6), Idaho (4), Kansas (6), Kentucky (8), Louisiana (8), Mississippi (6), Montana (3), Nebraska (5), North Dakota (3), Oklahoma (7), South Carolina (9), South Dakota (3), Tennessee (11), Utah (6), West Virginia (5) and Wyoming (3). These 18 states have 105 electoral votes.Lean Republican: (101 Electoral Votes)
The Obama forces have bravely boasted that they can turn Arizona (11), Georgia (16) and Texas (38), mainly because of growing Latino voting power. But with the economy in the tank, electoral claims on these big three will likely go the way of John McCain's early declaration in '08 that California was within his grasp.
Indiana (11), North Carolina (15), or an electoral vote in Nebraska (which like Maine awards one vote per congressional district), yet all three went for Mr. Obama by small margins. In 2012, Indiana is likely to desert him, as is the one Cornhusker district. To keep North Carolina, the Democrats chose Charlotte for their national convention and will make a big play statewide. As of now, it looks tough for them. Thus Republicans are in the lead to win 26 more electors. Missouri was the sole squeaker that went for McCain; few believe it will be tight next year, so the GOP will likely have those 10 votes, too.The Seven Swing States that will determine the 2012 Election:
That's why seven super-swing states with 85 electors will determine which party gets to the magic number of 270 electoral votes: Colorado (9), Florida (29), Iowa (6), Nevada (6), New Hampshire (4), Ohio (18) and Virginia (13).
Common Cents Prediction: Count Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Iowa and New Hampshire in the Republican column. 13 + 29 + 18+ 6 + 4 = 70 Electoral Votes from the Swing States.
- GOP CANDIDATE: 276 EV
- PRESIDENT OBAMA: 264 EV
Of course a lot can happen. If the Republicans can flip Pennsylvania (20 EV), Michigan (16 EV), or Wisconsin (10 EV) the election isn't close.
And if President Obama wins Florida or Ohio all bets are off. Stay tuned...

Video: No new jobs in US in August. Zero
For the first time since 1945 ZERO new jobs were created in the USA.
For the first time since 1945 no new jobs have been created in the US. The unemployment rate remains at 9.1%, and while President Obama is set to announce his jobs creation plan next week, many Americans wonder how the US will get out of its unemployment slump. Stephen Denning, former program director of the World Bank, tells us what is needed to get more American jobs.

Rush Limbaugh (transcript) The Single Biggest Destroyer of Jobs in History:
Rush Limbaugh was on a tear Friday Afternoon
RUSH: There weren't any jobs. What is there to say? In fact, I'll tell you, I don't know how they're gonna revise this number down. They revise the number down every month, right? How are they gonna revise zero down? Well, yeah, there had to be a net loss of jobs. Now, actually, there was a guy hired in August. And all of the networks had planned live interviews with the guy who got the job in August, but he got laid off on August 31st, so there was no job created. There was one guy who got a gig somewhere, I don't know where and I don't know what the job was, but the networks were all excited. They were gonna interview this guy as part of the Labor Day weekend, but he got laid off less than two weeks after he was hired. (laughing) It's no laughing matter, I know. It really isn't. It's a disaster out there. Yeah, we need a jobs program after almost three years of Obama jobs programs.

| You see the latest CNN/ORC poll? Supposedly more than eight in ten Americans think the economy is in another recession, 80%. When's the last time that 80% of Americans agreed on anything? I ask you, and yet 80% of Americans think that we are in another recession. You compare that, for instance, to the so-called consensus on manmade global warming. Now, it's funny, folks, as you well know, when there is a Republican in the White House, if most people think that we're in a recession, and we are, that's all it takes. In fact, we can be in a recession even when most people don't think we're in a recession. CNN is so eager to save Obama's bacon that they point out, even after 80% of the American people think we're in a recession, they're wrong, CNN says. Now, if it were Bush, and if 80% thought we were in a recession, they'd be right. But in this story, 80% of the people in their poll say they think they're in a recession, CNN then goes on to correct them and to explain that officially a recession's two consecutive quarters of negative growth. Never mind that they and the rest of the media have been saying for years that the recession started back in December 2007, even though there had not been two straight quarters of negative GDP at that point. But all of this talk about slipping back into recession and even the jobs number, zero, I'll tell you, it's geared to next week's big speech. One thing: Smoothing the way for Obama to ask for another round of stimulus spending next week. Just get prepared for it, folks. It's gonna be outrageously big, so much so, the Republicans can never support it, and then that will set up Obama running against Republican obstructionism, even though the Republicans have only been in power the last seven months of the little over two and a half years of the Obama regime. |
| BREAK TRANSCRIPT The BusinessInsider.com: "While the overall U.S. employment situation is dismal, today's jobs report shows the crisis is much worse for minorities. The unemployment rate for black Americans spiked to a shocking 16.7% in August, up from 15.9% the previous month. It's now the highest it has been during Barack Obama's presidency, up from the previous record of 16.5% in March and April 2010." By the way, this is the first time since 1945 that a jobs rate has been zero. Now, an old buddy, we like this guy a lot here at the EIB Network, James Pethokoukis, he dabbles at Reuters. Somehow he snuck in there, and he does blog posts and writes columns. He's not a lib, let's put it that way. We didn't create a single job, and the unemployment rate dropped nevertheless, right, went from 9.2 to 9.1. Pethokoukis points out that the unemployment rate, if the labor force was as big as it was when Obama took office, would be 11.4%. The way they get this down to 9.1% is simply reduce the number of jobs in the universe, just arbitrarily. |

Operation Fast and Furious - The Cover Up Grows!
The coverup of the US Gun-Running operation "Fast and Furious" continues to grow and grow. Big Hat Tip to Redstate for this one!
Executive background summary, for those who don’t remember/aren’t following: Operation Fast & Furious was an incredibly ill-advised program where the federal government directed various law-enforcement agencies to permit guns to be illegally resold to Mexican narco-terrorist gangs. The above quote is referencing a situation where some of those guns were traced to the Terry murder scene: the email trail indicates that the ATF was aware of the link between the two cases from the start. This is important because the ATF later attempted to stonewall Congressional investigators out the link, in the person of US Attorney (District of Arizona) Dennis Burke.
And now you know why Dennis Burke resigned (and why ATF whistleblower Kenneth Melson was abruptly transferred a few days ago). And why House Oversight Chair Darrell Issa and Senate Judiciary Ranking Member (for now) Chuck Grassley have promptly expanded their investigation to include the Arizona District’s US Attorney’s office. And why questions are being asked about why Burke refused a routine request to designate the family of slain Agent Terry as being crime victims. And why questions are being asked in general, in fact. Questions like “Who authorized this program?” “What was the true oversight chain?” “Who in the White House knew the most about this program?”
No, the answer to that last one is not “Nobody in the White House knew anything about this program.” It’s just come out that the level of communication about Fast & Furious that took place between former ATF Phoenix field office head William Newell and White House national security regional director Kevin O’Reilly was deeper than Newell originally reported. While not a true smoking gun, it does indicate that early assurances that the administration was not involved in this debacle are at best unsupported…
Moe Lane (crosspost)
PS: My usual comment about this investigation, at this stage: these things take time to develop. We’re starting to exit the ‘ask questions’ part and starting to enter the ‘here, let me pull on these loose threads here’ stage; patience is a virtue generally, and doubly so when it comes to a (potential) scandal of this magnitude. The real fun starts when people increasingly under the magnifying glass start realizing that while, say, the Attorney General can count on having a signed pardon covering his departure, they cannot…
