Antietam (Sharpsburg) 150 Year Anniversary:

Today, September 17th is the 150th anniversary of one, if not the, bloodiest days in American History, The Battle of Antietam.  On this day in 1862, the great armies of the Confederacy and of the Union met outside Sharpsburg, Maryland and fought to a draw.  When the day was over there were over 23,000 causalities! More Americans died on September 17, 1862, than on any other day in the nation's military history.

The Washington Post has an excellent story about the battle of Antietam.

The National Park Service has an excellent homepage concerning the Battle of Antietam.
