Memorial Day Tribute - some gave all:

Memorial Day is the day set aside to honor those Americans who have made the ultimate sacrifice and given their lives for our country.  Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 31 in 2010).

Originally known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the Civil War), it was expanded after World War I.  If you see a US Military Veteran this weekend please thank them for their service to our country.  And as always God Bless America.

GLOBAL WARMING ALERT: Earth Temperature continues to cool. Ice Age Coming?

COMMON CENTS proudly brings you today's Global Warming update.  Ever since Al Gore has released his movie "An Inconvenient Truth" Earth's temperatures have continued to cool.  In fact, since the release of his movie the average temperature on Earth has cooled 0.74 degrees F (0.39 C).

The latest global averaged satellite temperature data for June 2009 reveals yet another drop in the Earth's temperature. This latest drop in global temperatures means despite his dire warnings, the Earth has cooled .74°F since former Vice President Al Gore released "An Inconvenient Truth" in 2006.  According to the latest global satellite data courtesy of the University of Alabama in Huntsville and made into an easy to read graph by algorelied.com: "For the record, this month's Al Gore / 'An Inconvenient Truth' Index indicates that global temperatures have plunged approximately .74°F (.39°C) since Gore's film was released," noted algorelied.com. (See satellite temperature chart here with key dates noted, courtesy of www.Algorelied.com - Also see: 8 Year Downtrend Continues in Global Temps)  Gore -- who is fond of saying the Earth has a "fever" -- has not yet addressed the simple fact that global temperatures have dropped since the release of his global warming film. (Gore has also not addressed this: Another Moonwalker Defies Gore: NASA Astronaut Dr. Buzz Aldrin rejects global warming fears: 'Climate has been changing for billions of years' - Moonwalkers Defy Gore's Claim That Climate Skeptics Are Akin To Those Who Believe Moon Landing was 'Staged')  A record cool summer has descended upon many parts of the U.S. after predictions of the "year without a summer." There has been no significant global warming since 1995, no warming since 1998 and global cooling for the past few years. (Also see: Scientists Write Open Letter to Congress: 'Earth has been cooling for ten years' - 'Present cooling was NOT predicted by the alarmists' computer models, and has come as an embarrassment to them' - July 1, 2009In addition, New peer-reviewed scientific studies now predict a continued lack of global warming for up to three decades as natural climate factors dominate. (See: Climate Fears RIP...for 30 years!? - Global Warming could stop 'for up to 30 years! Warming 'On Hold?...'Could go into hiding for decades' study finds – Discovery.com – March 2, 2009 )

The Soviet Archives - A Hidden History of Evil

Superlative article by Claire Berlin of the City-Journal.  It discusses how the secret archives of the Soviet Union are slowly being revealed and how the world is largely ignoring them.  The Soviet Empire was the greatest evil the world has ever know, and is responsible for the murder of untold Tens of Millions of people.  Now that some of its secrets are out - why isn't the world's publishers and media exposing the abject evil that was the Soviet Union?  Please read this and pass it on...
In the world’s collective consciousness, the word “Nazi” is synonymous with evil. It is widely understood that the Nazis’ ideology—nationalism, anti-Semitism, the autarkic ethnic state, the Führer principle—led directly to the furnaces of Auschwitz. It is not nearly as well understood that Communism led just as inexorably, everywhere on the globe where it was applied, to starvation, torture, and slave-labor camps. Nor is it widely acknowledged that Communism was responsible for the deaths of some 150 million human beings during the twentieth century. The world remains inexplicably indifferent and uncurious about the deadliest ideology in history.  For evidence of this indifference, consider the unread Soviet archives. Pavel Stroilov, a Russian exile in London, has on his computer 50,000 unpublished, untranslated, top-secret Kremlin documents, mostly dating from the close of the Cold War. He stole them in 2003 and fled Russia. Within living memory, they would have been worth millions to the CIA; they surely tell a story about Communism and its collapse that the world needs to know. Yet he can’t get anyone to house them in a reputable library, publish them, or fund their translation. In fact, he can’t get anyone to take much interest in them at all.  Then there’s Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovsky, who once spent 12 years in the USSR’s prisons, labor camps, and psikhushkas—political psychiatric hospitals—after being convicted of copying anti-Soviet literature. He, too, possesses a massive collection of stolen and smuggled papers from the archives of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, which, as he writes, “contain the beginnings and the ends of all the tragedies of our bloodstained century.” These documents are available online at bukovsky-archives.net, but most are not translated. They are unorganized; there are no summaries; there is no search or index function. “I offer them free of charge to the most influential newspapers and journals in the world, but nobody wants to print them,” Bukovsky writes. “Editors shrug indifferently: So what? Who cares?”
The questions come back time and again, it is true, but few remember that they have been asked before, and few remember what the answer looked like. No one talks much about the victims of Communism. No one erects memorials to the throngs of people murdered by the Soviet state. (In his widely ignored book, A Century of Violence in Soviet Russia, Alexander Yakovlev, the architect of perestroika under Gorbachev, puts the number at 30 to 35 million.) Indeed, many still subscribe to the essential tenets of Communist ideology. Politicians, academics, students, even the occasional autodidact taxi driver still stand opposed to private property. Many remain enthralled by schemes for central economic planning. Stalin, according to polls, is one of Russia’s most popular historical figures. No small number of young people in Istanbul, where I live, proudly describe themselves as Communists; I have met such people around the world, from Seattle to Calcutta.  We rightly insisted upon total denazification; we rightly excoriate those who now attempt to revive the Nazis’ ideology. But the world exhibits a perilous failure to acknowledge the monstrous history of Communism. These documents should be translated. They should be housed in a reputable library, properly cataloged, and carefully assessed by scholars. Above all, they should be well-known to a public that seems to have forgotten what the Soviet Union was really about. If they contain what Stroilov and Bukovsky say—and all the evidence I’ve seen suggests that they do—this is the obligation of anyone who gives a damn about history, foreign policy, and the scores of millions dead.

Law:  A federal judge has struck a blow for California's water-deprived Central Valley, ruling that draconian federal water cutbacks violate human rights because — surprise! — people also belong in the ecosystem.

Jobs:  A Spanish economics professor said attempts by his country to create a green economy would fail. Now a Spanish government report confirms his findings, blunting claims that the professor's report was biased.

Border Security:  As the administration condemns Arizona for cracking down on illegals, it's training Arizona to do just that. It's called the ICE 287(g) Program.

Immigration:  An Arizona official asks a good question: If California wants to boycott Arizona over the way it enforces federal law, what about the electricity California gets from there?

The Weather:  A state attorney general is challenging the creator of the global warming hockey stick graph, and the researcher's allies are yelping about intimidation. But who are the real academic bullies?

Fiscal Policy:  As chaos spreads around the world and the U.S. deficit deepens, the White House seems confused and Congress can't even pass a budget. Have we ever lived through a time of greater incompetence?

Health Care Reform:  One analyst says the Democrats were amateurish in writing their overhaul bill. This might be worth more than a snicker. It could mean the courts can strike down the entire law at once.

Beneath Incompetent - The Democratic Congress Exposed!

The story the State Run Media refuses to print!  If this were a private sector entity they would have been fired by now.  When the Democrats took over control of Congress in January 2007 the US unemployment rate was 4.4%.  Somehow the State Run Media had convinced the American Public that those were the worst of times.  The fact that the US Economy was in the midst of 55 consequetive months of job growth was ignored.  In those days Budget Deficits of $400 Billion were lampooned.  (They are over 4 times as large now and growing).

Now flash forward to present day.  Since the Democrats took over Congress over 8 Million Jobs have been lost.  The unemployment rate has skyrocketed from 4.4 to 10%.  They are beneath incompetent.  They would have to improve to reach incompetence.  Remember this the next time there is an election.

3 Days Left - The PA-12 Special Election is Tuesday folks!

A couple of videos for you to pass on to anyone you know who lives in Southwestern Pennsylvania.  This is Jack Murtha's old seat and a seat that the GOP desperately needs to win to get control of Congress back.  Businessman Tim Burns is running a spirited campaign and this race is neck and neck.  The race is necessitated because of the death of Jack Murtha in February.  John McCain won PA-12 in 2008 and John Kerry won it in 2004.  It is definitely a swing district.  You can visit Tim Burns homepage here.  You can donate money to Republican Tim Burns here.

Required Readings: How we got here - Rules for Radicals meets the White House

Amazing article in Monday's Investor's Business Daily detailing how Saul Alinsky's book "Rules for Radicals" has influence Barack Obama and continues to.  The State-Run Media continues to ignore the connection between Ultra Radical and Socialist Saul Alinsky and then community organizer, turned State Senator Barack Obama.  In large part the tactics in this book explain how President Obama was elected and his philosophy to this day.  And do you know who Alinsky dedicated his book to?  The very first radical - Lucifer.
President Obama is fond of using ridicule to frustrate critics. He recently mocked Republicans for predicting "Armageddon" if health care reform passed. After signing the bill, he cracked that he looked around to "see if there were any asteroids falling," only to discover a nice day with "birds chirping." Obama has also used the tactic to dismiss charges that he's pushing a "socialist" agenda, arguing that critics will next accuse him of "being a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten." But the former community organizer also knows that ridiculing the opposition is an effective tactic taught by the father of community organizing, Saul D. Alinsky — a socialist agitator from Chicago whose influence on Obama is deeper than commonly known. In fact, the tactic is ripped right from the pages of "Rules for Radicals" (Vintage Books, New York, 1971), a how-to manual Alinsky wrote for coat-and-tie revolutionaries. "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon," reads Rule No. 5. "It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage." It's just one of 13 rules Alinsky coached his acolytes to follow to "take power away from the Haves." The Haves, represented foremost by corporate America, are "the enemy." They must be identified, singled out and targeted for attack — and the more personal the better, Alinsky advised, putting a special bull's-eye on banks. His 13th rule — "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it" — is not lost on Obama, who has targeted "fat cat" bankers, "predatory" lenders, "greedy" insurers and industrial "polluters" as enemies of the people. "Obama learned his lesson well," said David Alinsky, son of the late socialist. "I am proud to see that my father's model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing." Obama first learned Alinsky's rules in the 1980s, when Alinskyite radicals with the Chicago-based Alinsky group Gamaliel Foundation recruited, hired, trained and paid him as a community organizer in South Side Chicago. They also helped him get into Harvard Law School to "learn power's currency in all its intricacy and detail," as Obama put it in his memoir. A Gamaliel board member even wrote a letter of recommendation for him. Obama took a break from his Harvard studies to travel to Los Angeles for eight days of intense training at Alinsky's Industrial Areas Foundation, a station of the cross for acolytes. In turn, he trained other community organizers in Alinsky agitation tactics. In 1988, he even wrote a chapter for the book "After Alinsky: Community Organizing in Illinois," in which he lamented organizers' "lack of power" in implementing change.

The Nashville Floods - how to help...

The Nashville area has been hit by record rain and recordflooding in recent days.  The Grand Ole Opry Hotel had FIVE FEET of water in the lobby this week.  Flash flooding already has claimed the lives of at least 19 people in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Kentucky, and swamped thousands of homes. The Cumberland River, which winds through Nashville, was expected to crest more than 11 feet above flood stage Monday afternoon, putting even more areas in danger.
Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen called it an “unprecedented rain event” as more than 13 inches of rain fell in Nashville over two days, nearly doubling the previous record of 6.68 inches that fell in the wake of Hurricane Fredrick in 1979.  Rush Limbaugh interviewed Country Music Superstar John Rich who stated categorically "They are ignoring the Inland Tsunami"  You can download his song dedicated to the victims here.

There are a number of ways that Common Cents readers can help their fellow Americans including:

Common Cents strongly supports Tim Burns for Congress in next week's Special Election.  This election is to replace the seat vacated by the death of Democrat John Murtha in Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional Election.  Tim Burns has vowed to vote to repeal Obamacare and his election is one more seat closer the GOP gets to taking over the House of Representatives.

Recently Hot Air ran a behind the scenes look at Burn's race.  Very interesting reading.  This is a winnable race and will send shock waves through the political establishment.  Please donate here and do what you can to help win this race!
