Climategate 2.0

Climategate 2.0 - Last Friday there was yet another document dump of emails as required by the Freedom of Information Act FOIA.  This latest bunch shows that again scientists are well aware that there has been no increase in temperaturs and are actively trying to suppress any release of information which shows the Earth has NOT experienced an increase in temperature.  Some of the emails are below:

Observations do not show rising temperatures throughout the tropical
troposphere unless you accept one single study and approach and discount
a wealth of others. This is just downright dangerous. We need to
communicate the uncertainty and be honest. Phil, hopefully we can
find time to discuss these further if necessary [...]

Thorne: I also think the science is being manipulated to put a
political spin on it which for all our sakes might not be too
clever in the long run.

Carter: It seems that a few people have a very strong say, and no matter
how much talking goes on beforehand, the big decisions are made at
the eleventh hour by a select core group.

Wigley: Mike, The Figure you sent is very deceptive [...] there have
been anumber of dishonest presentations of model results by individual
authors and by IPCC

Overpeck: The trick may be to decide on the main message and use that to
guid[e] what's included and what is left out.

Wanner/NCCR: In my [IPCC-TAR] review [...] I crit[i]cized [...]
the Mann hockey[s]tick [...] My review was classified "unsignificant"
even I inquired several times. Now the internationally well known
newspaper SPIEGEL got the information about these early statements
because I expressed my opinion in several talks, mainly in Germany, in
2002 and 2003. I just refused to give an exclusive interview
to SPIEGEL because I will not cause damage for climate science.

Found this on You Tube - interesting documentary The History of The Internet:  This animated video does a good job explaining the internet and how it came to be.

This is Big: New Hampshire's Union Leader endorses Newt Gingrich for President

New Hampshire's largest newspaper The Union Leader has come out today with a strong editorial endorsing New Gingrich for President!  The Union Leader endorsement reads:

  • Newt Gingrich talks about issues during a stop at the New Hampshire Union Leader on Monday.

    (DAVID LANE/UNION LEADER)

This newspaper endorses Newt Gingrich in the New Hampshire Presidential Primary.

America is at a crucial crossroads. It is not going to be enough to merely replace Barack Obama next year. We are in critical need of the innovative, forward-looking strategy and positive leadership that Gingrich has shown he is capable of providing.

He did so with the Contract with America. He did it in bringing in the first Republican House in 40 years and by forging balanced budgets and even a surplus despite the political challenge of dealing with a Democratic President. A lot of candidates say they're going to improve Washington. Newt Gingrich has actually done that, and in this race he offers the best shot of doing it again.

We sympathize with the many people we have heard from, both here and across the country, who remain unsure of their choice this close to the primary. It is understandable. Our nation is in peril, yet much of the attention has been focused on fluff, silliness and each candidate's minor miscues.

Truth be known, many in the liberal media are belittling the Republican candidates because they don't want any of them to be taken as a serious challenger to their man, Obama.

Readers of the Union Leader and Sunday News know that we don't back candidates based on popularity polls or big-shot backers. We look for conservatives of courage and conviction who are independent-minded, grounded in their core beliefs about this nation and its people, and best equipped for the job.

We don't have to agree with them on every issue. We would rather back someone with whom we may sometimes disagree than one who tells us what he thinks we want to hear.

Newt Gingrich is by no means the perfect candidate. But Republican primary voters too often make the mistake of preferring an unattainable ideal to the best candidate who is actually running. In this incredibly important election, that candidate is Newt Gingrich. He has the experience, the leadership qualities and the vision to lead this country in these trying times. He is worthy of your support on January 10.

2nd Scott Walker Ad; "I'm Not Big on Reacalls"

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is back on the air with the 2nd commercial supporting himself. The new spot features a woman who is identified by her first name in the on-screen text, “Kristi,” and is listed as being a teacher — a key demographic, as a major subject of the recall is Walker’s anti-public employee union legislation that has particularly hit educators in their interactions with school districts. “I’m not big on recalls,” says Kristi, “and I think that, at this point, in my opinion — and I’m only speaking from the ‘I’ — it feels a little like sour grapes. It’s you know, ‘we didn’t get our way and so we want to change the outcome.’
“The person that I’m going to stand behind and that is going to get my vote is the man or the woman that says what they mean and means what they say, and it’s not about being popular — you know, it’s not about getting the votes — it’s ‘this is what’s right.’ “Scott Walker said from the beginning, ‘I’m going to do what’s right for Wisconsin,’ and he did. He did.”

Video: Black Friday Chaos:

You've probably heard about the woman who Pepper Sprayed other customers at a California Wal Mart. Then there is the police who has to user Stun Guns on shoppers in Alabama.  Some Black Friday incidents caught on video:

Even as political violence rocks Tahrir Square, epicenter of the Arab Spring, and the Occupy Wall Street movement struggles to retain its momentum, a decidedly lower-stakes variety of unrest has taken hold of average Americans. Call it the Doorbuster Revolution. Following a day of media-stoked hype over deeply discounted retail goods, unruly Black Friday shoppers have been pepper-sprayed at least twice, rioted over waffle irons, and now, as MSNBC reports, tased into submission. That is not to say that authorities have acted properly in every case. According to news accounts, for instance, off-duty police security personnel pepper-sprayed a crowd at a North Carolina Wal Mart because they mistakenly thought a fight had broken out. In another incident, a shopper sprayed fellow bargain-hunters in order to keep them away from her desired merch. In a viral video shot at a Wal Mart in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, there was no security in evidence as shoppers decimated the store’s supply of $2 waffle irons like a school of agitated piranha. Now, MSNBC is reporting that police tased a shopper, who was allegedly drunk, in an Alabama Wal Mart today:

Charlie Brown: "The Origins of Thanksgiving"

In case you missed it on TV tonight...
Part 1:  A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving:

Part 2:  A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving:

Abraham Lincoln's 1863 Thanksgiving Day Proclamation:

Hat Tip:  Freedom's Lighthouse

President Lincoln Proclamation Establishing Thanksgiving Day
October 3, 1863

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies.  To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.  In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.  Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle, or the ship; the axe had enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore.  Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years, with large increase of freedom.
No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things.  They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.
It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American people.  I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.   And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.
Done at the city of Washington, this third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the independence of the United States the eighty-eighth.
A. Lincoln

OMG:  Take a virtual ride down the World's Scariest Roller Coaster. But there is little time to enjoy the view of snow-capped mountain as the ride lasts just 112 seconds. The ride's designers even called in adjudicators from the Guinness Book of World Records, which ratified that the drop, involving a 121-degree freefall, is the steepest on any attraction anywhere in the world. Takabisha, which translates as 'dominant' in English, relies on a combination of gravity and a set of linear motors on the cars. These accelerate the coaster to speeds of 100kmph.

There wsa NO SUPERCOMMITTEE FAILURE!

Rather it was a huge success.  So argues Investor's Business Daily in today's lead editorial.  They say that the result will be budget deficit redtuction based entirely on spending cuts.  Exit question - when is a 18% INCREASE a cut?

For Supercommittee, Failure Was the Only Option

The Debt Crisis: The "failure" of the supercommittee is better described as a success. Republicans stood firm against new taxes and got what they set out to achieve: deficit reduction that relies 100% on spending cuts.
With the supercommittee's demise, Washington went into finger-pointing mode. Democrats and Republicans blamed each other for not budging on taxes. Mitt Romney blamed President Obama for his lack of leadership. And while Obama hasn't blamed anyone yet, we're pretty sure it won't be himself.
This blame game is woefully misguided. Given the political environment, Republicans were right to hang tough on tax hikes, take the $1.2 trillion in spending reductions, and hope Obama loses the next election so we can finally get serious about our debt crisis.
Consider what "success" would have looked like: a significant boost in taxes today in exchange for virtually meaningless spending "cuts" spread out over a decade. Under this summer's debt ceiling deal, the supercommittee had to find $1.2 trillion in 10-year deficit cuts on top of a first round of $900 billion spending cuts. If not, cuts would automatically be made, split evenly between domestic and defense "discretionary" programs. While $1.2 trillion seems like a lot, it's barely noticeable, given the gargantuan size of the budget. And as the chart shows, there's no cut in spending at all, just continued growth at a slightly reduced rate. It wasn't worth it for the GOP to cave on its pledge not to raise taxes and hand Democrats a significant political victory just to scale back these meager "cuts." It's true that as a result of the supercommittee's failure, the Defense Department is in for a hit, one that Defense Secretary Leon Panetta calls "devastating." But the cuts don't kick in until next October and would amount to only $33 billion that fiscal year. This would still leave defense with $5 billion more than it had in 2010 and $72 billion more than in 2008. And over the next 10 years, its budget will still climb 18%. Plus, Congress can always adjust that spending if needed.

Video: Why is Grover Norquist being blamed for Super Committee failure:

Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform in amazingly being blamed for the failures of the Super Committee.  Wolf Bliter of CNN interviewed him on The Situation Room:

It Continues - Democrat pollsters call on President Obama to abandon re-election effort:

You know it is getting bad when Democrat Pollsters Pat Caddell and Douglass E. Schoen argue in a Wall St. Journal editorial that President Obama should not try and run for re-election but should defer to Hillary Clinton:
When Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson accepted the reality that they could not effectively govern the nation if they sought re-election to the White House, both men took the moral high ground and decided against running for a new term as president. President Obama is facing a similar reality—and he must reach the same conclusion.
He should abandon his candidacy for re-election in favor of a clear alternative, one capable not only of saving the Democratic Party, but more important, of governing effectively and in a way that preserves the most important of the president's accomplishments. He should step aside for the one candidate who would become, by acclamation, the nominee of the Democratic Party: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Never before has there been such an obvious potential successor—one who has been a loyal and effective member of the president's administration, who has the stature to take on the office, and who is the only leader capable of uniting the country around a bipartisan economic and foreign policy.
Certainly, Mr. Obama could still win re-election in 2012. Even with his all-time low job approval ratings (and even worse ratings on handling the economy) the president could eke out a victory in November. But the kind of campaign required for the president's political survival would make it almost impossible for him to govern—not only during the campaign, but throughout a second term.
Put simply, it seems that the White House has concluded that if the president cannot run on his record, he will need to wage the most negative campaign in history to stand any chance. With his job approval ratings below 45% overall and below 40% on the economy, the president cannot affirmatively make the case that voters are better off now than they were four years ago. He—like everyone else—knows that they are worse off.

    Good for you Justin Timberlake:

Feel Good Story of the day.  Justin Timberlake was invited to go to the Marine Corps ball by Corporal Kelsey de Santis and said "It was one of the most moving experiences of my life".  Corporal de Santis invited Justin via a You Tube video and he accepted!
Justin Timberlake fought back the tears at a Marine Corps Ball he attended, calling the event 'one of the most moving evenings' he has ever experienced.
The Sexy Back singer attended the Instructor Battalion party in Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday night with Corporal Kelsey de Santis, who invited him to be her date in a video she posted on YouTube in July. One guest said the star, who was dressed in a sharp black tuxedo, 'posed for pictures and seemed like a normal guy'.

'I will never forget it': The star said the night 'changed my life'
He took to his blog yesterday to talk about his moving evening.
The post on the 30-year-old's website starts: 'I'm writing this out to all of you after attending an event that turned out to be one of the most moving evenings I've ever had.

'I knew I would have an evening that I wouldn't forget... Something I could tell my friends about. What I didn't know was how moved I would be by the whole experience.

'I've always been very vocal about my support of our Armed Forces. To say I was stoked to be there would be more than accurate.'

Kelsey calls out Justin - "Go with Me Justin"

Justin Timberlake later wrote in his blog "My Night at the Marine Corps Ball"
They started the ceremony. And, the next thing I knew I was watching a video about Pearl Harbor/WW2 and the September 11 terrorist attacks... It was a video with some first-hand accounts from some Marines who were there... Telling their stories of the sights and sounds of war and rescue. So vivid and real. So honest but, so filled with a sense of compassion and adoration for this wonderful country. They spoke with a pride that only they could have acquired through their experience as a US Marine. There was a common theme that I began to notice as well... No matter what the situation. No matter how dire...

    They were there FIRST.

    There on the front lines.

    No questions... Just reaction.

While this tribute was playing, you could hear a pin drop. It was a surreal moment to be in that room with so many of our great Marines who have such a different type of connection to those stories. One that we who don't serve will NEVER understand. It was familial. It was like they were listening to their own blood brothers. I glanced around the room at young men and women, spouses and soldiers... At kids way beyond their years, really... All so deeply entwined. Not just by battle, even though we who have never endured anything remotely close to those experiences and have NO position to comment on... But, by having such life changing experiences through them and to not ever waver in their love and respect for our homeland. That's what I saw. A faith in us that has been tested time and time again. And, through it all, NEVER a drop of doubt.

    I was truly moved.

The evening went on and we ate and took photos and drank and made jokes.

There were some speeches that prompted many "huahs" and applause. There was laughs. We even danced a little.

I felt so proud to be there. I felt like I was getting a chance to be among my heroes. It's funny too because a lot of them are SO younger than me.

The evening wound down for me as, I had to catch a plane. But, I have to say that I had so much fun with Kelsey and her crew of friends. They were just really nice people... Classy Marines but, not without a great sense of humor. Real individuals but, not without a sense of community.

I said my goodbyes to them but, not before I got a chance to tell them how much the evening had meant to me. They made me feel so welcome to be there and I'll never forget it.

We all have our own individual views on war... But, doesn't that speak to just another thing that makes this country so special?? The fact that we can all wake up every morning and BE individual with a pure sense of freedom..? But, one thing that can't be argued is that it's because of the people who VOLUNTEER their lives to make sure that it's protected at all times. And, like I said before, doing so while asking for nothing in return...

To all of you that serve every day for us... Ensuring our freedom, I say: My deepest gratitude to you. I've met so many of my heroes... From Michael Jordan to Michael Jackson. And, nothing makes me feel more honor and pride than when I get to meet one of you. Last night changed my life and I will never forget it.

To people like me who get to benefit from this type of person... One with character and courage. With strength and bravery. With humility and honor... I say: Send your thanks. Do it however you can. Write a letter, type an email... Hell, buy 'em a beer next time you run into someone from our Armed Forces in a bar. When they say thank you for that drink that cost you 3 bucks, they'll mean it. They won't take it for granted and, they won't forget it.

Thank you Corporal Kelsey DeSantis. Thank you for inviting me. And, thank you for being my hero.

Would you pay $4.3 Million for this photo? Someone did!

    Wow!

This week, auction house Christie’s sold the above photo by Andreas Gursky for $4.3 million, setting the record for all-time most expensive photo (the previous record was set by Cindy Sherman’s “Untitled #96,” which sold for $3.89 million). For many starving photographers in the 99%, this may be similar to seeing heads of the big banks getting giant bonuses while the rest of the economy suffers. But from van Gogh to Pollock, the “value” of art has always been in the eye of the beholder. Those unfamiliar with Gursky may be wondering: What’s so special about a picture of a river and some grass? What elevates that photo above so many others? And how did the price get so astronomically high? Well, for one thing, it’s not uncommon for a Gursky to sell for millions of dollars. His piece 99 Cnet II Diptychon at right also broke records when it was auctioned off for $3.3 million.

Governor McDonnell's statement on Virginia GOP's Historic Victory:

Governor McDonnell's statement on Virginia GOP's Historic Victory Tuesday Night:

When your state is known as the “Mother of Presidents”, and home to Yorktown, Mount Vernon, Monticello, Appomattox, and the first permanent English settlement in America, you don’t toss around the saying “we made history” too lightly. But, my friends, I am pleased to say that is exactly what the Commonwealth of Virginia did Tuesday. We Made History.
With their votes yesterday, Virginians gave Republicans working majorities in both chambers of our state legislature. In the House of Delegates we now have 67 Republican delegates, the most in Virginia history. We won 13 of 14 open seats and defeated two Democratic incumbents. In the Senate we gained two seats, moving the body to 20-20 and placing it in Republican control with GOP Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling holding the tie breaking vote. We won 3 of 5 open seats and defeated two Democratic incumbents. All of this means that this upcoming session will be only the second time since Reconstruction ended, 141 years ago, that the GOP will control Virginia’s Executive Mansion, State Senate and House of Delegates at the same time. The only other time this occurred was during a brief two-year period from 1999-2001. That’s right, since 1870, Republicans have controlled the executive and legislative branches of Virginia government for all of 1.4% of the time.In politics change can come quickly. In our case, quickly doesn’t begin to do this turn around justice.

In 2008 the Old Dominion voted for President Barack Obama by 7 points. After that election, our congressional delegation stood at 6 Democrats and 5 Republicans. Both of our United States Senators were Democrats. The Governor was a Democrat and Chairman of the Democratic National Committee. The State Senate was under Democrat control. It appeared, as many Democrats happily opined, that Virginia had “turned blue.”
After tonight, it’s a whole different story. Conservative Republicans now serve as Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General. The congressional delegation is made up of 8 Republicans and 3 Democrats. We now hold the majority in both the State Senate and the House. One of our two Democratic United States Senators has chosen not to run for re-election, and there is a fiercely competitive election taking shape for that seat.
In 2 short years, from 2009 to 2011, conservative candidates have won contested elections in every region of the Commonwealth. In no other place in America has the political sea change been so dramatic in such a short period of time. That said, all this change has come in a very “Virginia” way. In Richmond we have avoided the poisonous rhetoric and vitriol that seems to plague our neighbors to the North in Washington. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had plenty of debate and discussion, but it has occurred in a respectful manner and our debates have been solved the way of Founding Fathers intended: peacefully, orderly and at the ballot box.
Virginia’s path from blue to red was achieved through results, not rhetoric. It has occurred thanks to the strength of our ideas, the commitment to our principles and our laser-like focus on getting real results for the citizens of the Commonwealth. What I call “Results Oriented Conservatism” is working in a diverse, growing and politically pivotal state.
    This is our Virginia Story.
When we took office the unemployment rate stood at 7.2% and the Commonwealth faced a combined $6 billion in budget shortfalls. My predecessor, Democratic Governor Tim Kaine, left a proposed $2.2 billion tax hike to “help” close the gap. That was the “welcome basket” waiting for us. Collectively, we faced a crucial moment in the life of our state. How would we address a down economy and a budget crisis?
We saw Washington’s approach to those issues on the national level. It came in the form of greater government spending, more regulation, class warfare, regular attacks on job creators and a general belief that growing government would fix a shrinking economy. In the Commonwealth, we chose a very different way forward.
Here in Richmond we didn’t raise taxes and we didn’t grow government. Instead, we defeated Tim Kaine’s tax hike and reduced state spending to 2006 levels. At the same time, we invested in transportation, higher education and economic development. We didn’t buy in to the mistaken belief that you can’t prioritize in government. You can. That is how we reduced spending by billions of dollars, rolling back the budget clock five years, while at the same time putting the most new funding into transportation in a generation and making college more affordable and accessible for our students. In both transportation and education, we knew we needed to bet on and invest in our own future. The results of these two very different approaches are striking. In Washington, the national unemployment rate stands at 9 percent, and has been at or above 8 percent for 31 straight months. The national debt has ballooned to nearly $15 trillion. Consumer confidence is down. Gridlock the norm. In Virginia, our unemployment rate is down to 6.5 percent, third lowest east of the Mississippi and lowest in the Southeast. We turned $6 billion in budget shortfalls into two straight budget surpluses totaling nearly $1 billion. We’ve put the most new funding into transportation since 1986, while setting state spending levels back years at the same time.

Breaking: GOP Takes working Majority in Virginia Senate - Largest House Margin Ever!

In a State that President Obama is counting on next year Virginia Republicans appear to flipped the State Senate to Republicans Fox News is reporting:
Republicans appeared on the cusp of taking control of the Virginia Senate Tuesday with at least one veteran Democrat losing to a freshman Republican senator and a seven-term Democrat trailing a Republican challenger.
In the House of Delegates, Republicans picked up at least six seats, staking them to 66 of the chamber's 100 seats, the GOP's largest House majority ever. That doesn't count a conservative independent, Del. Lacey Putney, who organizes with House Republicans and another race that was too close to call.
Democrat Roscoe Reynolds lost his bid for a fourth term to freshman GOP Sen. Bill Stanley in the Senate's marquee race, bringing the GOP to within one seat of 20-20 split in the 40-member Senate. Republican Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling breaks Senate tie votes.
