2001 Cable TV Ratings:
The 2011 Final Cable TV News Ratings are in and once again Fox News continues to dominate the competition with the top 13 news rated shows on Cable TV. Believe it or now the re-runs of The O'Reilly Factor are above any other Cable TV News show.
The top cable news programs of 2011 are in, and not surprisingly most of the top spots are occupied by Fox News Channel. In the key news demo of adults 25-54, FNC has nine of the top 10 slots–led by “The O’Reilly Factor,” with MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow” placing 10th. The 10 PM airing of CNN’s “AC360″ placed 11th. In total viewers FNC had the top 13 programs on cable news, followed by Maddow and MSNBC’s primetime lineup at 14-16, CNN’s “AC360″ at 17th and HLN’s Nancy Grace at 18th.

The Best Editorial Page You Will Find
is Investor's Business Daily. IBD publishes easy-to-read editorials that show the benefits of free markets and capitalism. A sampling:
Inviting Espionage: The administration is considering reviving a '90s-era nuclear scientist exchange program with China. Does no one in the White House remember how much damage the previous arrangement caused?
Religious Freedom: As our nation celebrates Christmas, Christians in the nations we shed blood and treasure for to establish democracy face extinction. For Christians in Iraq and Afghanistan, it may be the last Christmas ever.
Press Freedom: What's the oldest trick in the dictator's handbook? Why, to seize the newsprint. Fresh from a big electoral win, Argentina's President Cristina Fernandez has pulled that hoary stunt, topping even Hugo Chavez.
Regulation: The EPA thinks it's worth spending billions of dollars each year to reduce already minuscule amounts of mercury in the outside air. So why is it trying to shove mercury-laced fluorescent bulbs into everyone's homes?
Green Policy: A think tank crunches the subsidy and bailout dollars and puts the true cost of Government Motors' electric car at a cool quarter-million. And the few sold have been largely bought by the 1%.
War On Terror: The 14 coordinated bombings that ravaged Baghdad on Thursday, killing dozens, only begins Iraq's post-U.S. nightmare. America's job was never finished.
Energy Policy: Canada's prime minister restates that if there's no Keystone XL pipeline in the works, not to worry. Our northern ally will still be our friend as it sends its tar sands oil to Asian markets.

Last Christmas Video: Dad home from Iraq poses as Santa for his daughter's class...
Too Cool. Girl Tells Santa She Wants Dad Home From Iraq, Doesn't Know Santa is Dad:
More Good News: "Going to church is good for your health!"
We've covered this before but more evidence that going to church has medicinal benefits!
Going to church at Christmas may have been good for the soul, but scientists have discovered that it may also be good for the body. Researchers found that attending services lowers blood pressure – and the more often you go the lower it becomes. Previous studies in the U.S. suggested the link, but as 40 per cent of Americans regularly go to church its health benefits were treated as a coincidence. So the Norwegian researchers, who had just four per cent of churchgoers among their 120,000 participants, were surprised to see they too had lower blood pressure. ‘Previous research from the United States has shown that there is a possible link between people who attend church and blood pressure. ‘About 40 per cent of the U.S. population goes to church on a weekly basis, while the corresponding figure in Nord-Trondelag County, where the research was carried out, is 4 per cent. 'For that reason, we did not expect to find any correlation between going to church and blood pressure in Nord-Trondelag. 'Our findings, however, are almost identical to those previously reported from the United States, so we were really surprised.’ The early results mean that it will now be studied further to determine the extent that religious beliefs can affect general health, and if other religions have the same effect.Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2078519/Going-church-good-Services-lower-blood-pressure-research-finds.html#ixzz1hbgFIx9a

Merry Christmas:
Merry Christmas from Common Cents:
Luke 2
The Birth of Jesus
1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. 21 On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.

The Payroll Tax Cut - What Really Happened:
As everyone knows the GOP caved and there will be a 2 month extension (instead of the 12 month extension the Republicans wanted) in the Payroll Tax which supports Social Security. As always IBD Editorials hit it out of the park!
Politics: Browbeaten by the polls and a pro-Obama press, the House of Representatives Thursday caved in to the White House on the payroll tax "cut." Result: cash for pizza now — and smaller Social Security checks later.
Dubbed "a compromise" in Congress, GOP House Speaker John Boehner and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced an agreement to extend the year's payroll tax cut by another two months and continue hashing out an extension for another year.
"Sen. Reid and I have reached an agreement that will ensure taxes do not increase for working families on Jan. 1 while ensuring that a complex new reporting burden is not unintentionally imposed on small business job creators," Boehner said, adding that "a new bill will be approved by the House that reflects the bipartisan agreement in the Senate along with new language that allows job creators to process and withhold payroll taxation under the same accounting structure that is currently in place."
Sounds great on paper. And now House Republicans can happily claim to retain their title of tax-cutters.
But this wasn't really a tax cut.
Real tax cuts are offset by lower government spending, fewer bureaucrats and smaller government — and result in economic growth as capital is redirected into investment. This so-called "tax cut" for pizza money was nothing but a fresh raid on Social Security.
The effect will be yet another $200 billion drain on the so-called "trust fund," which is nothing but an accounting fiction given the bad shape it's in.
The 12.4% payroll tax from today's workers — which will now be lowered to 8.4% — goes into the Social Security pot and, like a Ponzi scheme, gets paid out to today's retirees until the money runs out. Anything extra is the "trust fund" that politicians use as a political slush fund for pet projects like this "tax cut." That's why the "trust fund" will go completely dry by 2036. This "cut" will only make it happen sooner.
President Obama sold this "tax cut" as money for "Friday pizza nights" for "working families" — but it comes at the expense of the young, who face the prospect of paying all their lives into Social Security, only to be told "no" by the government when they retire.
But Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, aren't thinking about that. They're both thinking about the next election. The empty-coffer problem — and the smaller checks — has just been kicked to the next guy.

WOW! Shroud of Turin CAN'T be a fake researchers say!
Could be the story of the century millennium. Scientists say that the Shroud of Turin could only have been produced in medieval times or even with today's technology.
The Shroud of Turin is very likely not the product of Medieval fakery, say Italian researchers who used modern technology to test the holy cloth’s authenticity.
Over five years of work, the scientists blasted modern linen with ultraviolet light and examined X-rays of the fabric, attempting to replicate the stunning Christ-like image exhibited in the Shroud.
The findings, released in November by Italy’s National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Development, showed they “achieved a very superficial, Shroud-like coloration of linen yarns,” according to a report on msnbc.com.
It fell way short of the characteristics of the real Shroud, however. They concluded therefore that Jesus’s supposed burial cloth could not have been doctored in Medieval times, as has been theorized during past studies, some of which relied on radiocarbon dating of fiber samples.
“We have shown that the most advanced technology available today is unable to replicate all the characteristics of the Shroud image,” lead researcher Paolo Di Lazzaro told msnbc.com in an email.
“As a consequence, we may argue it appears unlikely a forger may have done this image with technologies available in the Middle Ages or earlier.
But that doesn’t necessarily solve the intensely debated mystery, he added, noting that the findings have attracted media attention in recent days due to articles in the British press.
“The probability the Shroud is a Medieval fake is really low,” Di Lazzaro said. “In this sense, the Shroud image is still a scientific challenge.”
The faithful believe the Shroud was wrapped around Jesus’s body after his death. Its mysterious imprint — showing a Christ-like human form bearing blood stains that correspond to crucifixion wounds — is believed to be the result of the flash of light during the Resurrection.

Video: Mitt Romney's Top Ten List
Mitt Romney appeared on Late Night with David Letterman and present his Top Ten Things America should know about him:
Things Mitt Romney would like to say to the American People:
Charitable Giving: Liberals vs. Consevatives
Charitable Giving - Liberals vs. Conservatives (Who Gives More?)
Liberals love go on about giving they are - and conversely how mean spirited and tight fisted they believe conservatives to be. Actually the opposite is true - as we will show here:
Liberals like to be known as generous and giving but the facts are otherwise. Sarah Palin and her husband Todd just trounced Senator Biden's family in terms of their charity giving. Consider:
Catholic Charities The largest private network of social service organizations in the United States works to support families, reduce poverty, and build communities.
The Red Cross: The American Red Cross helps prepare communities for emergencies and keep people safe every day thanks to caring people who support our work
Habitat for Humanity: You’re helping families to break the cycle of poverty and build long-term financial security. Habitat’s affordable, no-profit house payments free up money for food, child care, medicine and other necessities. And research has shown that decent housing improves health, increases children’s educational achievement and strengthens community ties.
Food For The Poor: is the number one international relief and development charity in the United States, feeding 2 million poor every day. Our Christian relief programs and projects are helping children and the poorest of the poor by providing food, housing, health care, education, water projects, emergency relief and micro-enterprise assistance in the Caribbean and Latin America.
Liberals love go on about giving they are - and conversely how mean spirited and tight fisted they believe conservatives to be. Actually the opposite is true - as we will show here:
Another great article on conservative vs. liberals generosity is here.People who identify themselves as conservatives donate money to charity more often than people who identify themselves as liberals. They donate more money and a higher percentage of their incomes. It is not that conservatives have more money. Liberal families average 6 percent higher incomes than conservative families. So is the fact that most of the states that voted for John Kerry during the 2004 election donated a lower percentage of their incomes to charity than the states that voted for President Bush. Conservatives not only donate more money to charity than liberals do, conservatives volunteer more time as well. More conservatives than liberals also donate blood. "If liberals and moderates gave blood at the same rate as conservatives, the blood supply of the United States would jump about 45 percent."
You can read the article here
Liberals like to be known as generous and giving but the facts are otherwise. Sarah Palin and her husband Todd just trounced Senator Biden's family in terms of their charity giving. Consider:
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made considerably less money than rival Sen. Joe Biden, but the Palin family gave more to charity in the last two years than Biden has in the last eight combined, according to Palin's tax records released Friday afternoon. Palin, the running mate of presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), and her husband Todd reported meager earnings from 2006 and 2007, at least by presidential-politics standards.
In 2006, the Palins paid $11,944 in taxes on $127,869 in income. In 2007, they paid $24,738 on $166,080.
But in 2006, they donated $4,880 to charity, and in 2007, they donated $3,325.
By contrast, Biden (D-Del.), Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's running mate, has donated a total of $3,690 since 1998 despite his higher Senate salary, according to an analysis posted by National Review. Read about it here.
With that said here are some outstanding charities that we wish you would give to:
Catholic Charities The largest private network of social service organizations in the United States works to support families, reduce poverty, and build communities.
The Red Cross: The American Red Cross helps prepare communities for emergencies and keep people safe every day thanks to caring people who support our work
Habitat for Humanity: You’re helping families to break the cycle of poverty and build long-term financial security. Creepy Video: North Koreans weeping hysterically over death of Kim Jung Il
Creepy Video. North Koreans crying and weeping hysterically at the death of their leader Kim Jung Il.
UPDATE: North Korea at Night:
Democrat Pollster Pat Caddell and Doug Shoen "NH Dem voters should WRITE IN Hillary Clinton"
It will be interesting to see if this movement has legs. Democrats Pat Caddell and Doug Schoen are urging New Hampshire Democrats to Write In Hillary Clinton's name in the New Hampshire Primary. They published this article in Politico today:
We argued in a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed piece that President Barack Obama should stand down and let Secretary of State Hillary Clinton run as the Democratic presidential nominee in 2012.Update: Draft Hillary Robocalls are going out.
We are now calling on Democratic voters nationally — particularly in New Hampshire — to organize a write-in campaign for Clinton. This is something that New Hampshire voters have a long history of doing.
We advocate this Draft Hillary movement not because of the desire to make political mischief — but to put the country on the right course. It’s clear that Obama has been unable to build consensus and, with the polarizing campaign he is now running, will be unable to govern effectively even if reelected. Only Clinton can commit the Democratic Party — and, indeed, the nation — to a unification and healing process. This could allow Washington, in a bipartisan manner, to finally address the economic and governmental crises that now grip America.
We are facing a crisis of national leadership, so citizens should step up and take charge of their country the way demonstrators in the Middle East did earlier this year. And, stunningly, as the people of Russia are now doing.
It’s time to take the decision about America’s leadership out of the hands of the established powers and return it to the citizens of our country. That opportunity to change U.S. politics will appear in the second week of 2012 in New Hampshire.
To seize this moment two things are required:
First, and most important, ordinary Democrats and independents in New Hampshire should mobilize behind a grass-roots effort to write in Clinton’s name during the Jan. 10 Democratic primary.
Second, a committed group of Democrats with resources and stature needs to help facilitate an authentic citizens’ movement — independent of party structure, Clinton and organized interests — to support a massive New Hampshire write-in campaign and put this before a deeply disaffected electorate.
There is already an online petition to draft Clinton, created by Democrats.
“We the undersigned Democrats want a new Democratic nominee for president who can win in 2012. We are convinced that the only person with the national stature, experience … who can win in the general election in 2012 is Hillary Rodham Clinton. We are fully prepared to take matters in to our own hands and launch our own massive write-in campaign,” it reads.
Even if one does not agree with their every argument, we urge everyone who shares our beliefs go to that website now — and to tell their friends to go to there and sign it.
Since 1944, when approval ratings first became reliable, there have been five cases in which the incumbent president had an approval rating below 49 percent a year ahead of the election. Each time, the incumbent party lost.
Obama’s approval rating has dropped to 43 percent — less than Jimmy Carter’s. Obama now has the worst job approval rating of any president at this stage of his term in modern political history. Many, particularly on the left, have begun to demonstrate with signs reading, “Buyer’s remorse.” Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1211/70623.html#ixzz1h1VZelFP

Merry Christmas! Secret Santa giving continues to grow:
Secret Santa's paying layaway bills: How cool is this! Amazing story of Americans picking up the tabs for strangers' layaway bills.
GRAND RAPIDS — In just a week’s time, one woman’s generosity at a Plainfield Township Kmart’s layaway counter has inspired similar acts of kindness not only at that store but at some of the retailer’s other stores in Michigan and across the country.Read the rest of the story here.
After buying a cart-load of items for the Toys for Tots campaign, the woman went back into the Plainfield Avenue NE store and spent about $500 to pay off the layaway accounts of three strangers.
News of her good deed inspired a man from a charity to go in the next day to pay off 14 accounts worth about $2,000. Since then, it has been a domino effect of generosity. People have been going to the store to pay off accounts or make payments for strangers.
As of Tuesday, more than 40 accounts have been paid off at the Plainfield store, with donations topping $5,000. The paid-off layaway accounts have averaged $150.
“It’s wonderful,” said Carol Vernon, assistant store manager at the store. “It’s just brought back the true spirit of Christmas.”
Vernon said it has been enjoyable watching the shock and gratitude expressed by those who benefited from these Secret Santas.
One was a woman whose husband was laid off from his job the day before, and another was a mother of eight children.
Vernon said those stepping forward to make the payments made sure the accounts involved items such as children’s clothing, coats and necessities.
“That’s one of the stipulations people had. It’s not going for frivolous stuff like big televisions,” she said.

GREAT NEWS! WI Gov't Accountability Board to accept signatures from Mickey Mouse & Adolph Hitler:
Sad but true - with one Wisconsin resident saying he has signed at least 80 petitions what kind of accountability is this?
However, the process it will be using, which was unanimously approved by the Board, will assume every signature is from a valid Wisconsin elector… even if their name is Mickey Mouse or Adolf Hitler.Hat Tip Big Government:
Testifying at a meeting of Wisconsin’s Government Accountability Board, GAB staff made several stunning admissions Tuesday. GAB representative stated, on the record, that all signatures that include a proper date and Wisconsin address are presumed valid, even those of Mickey Mouse and Adolf Hitler.

Harry Morgan RIP: 1915 - 2011

Conservative vs. Liberals; Partisan divide over favorite TV Shows
Not much of a surprise but there is a huge Partisan Divide over which TV Shows are favorites among Liberals and Conservatives.
LIBERAL-DEMOCRAT FAVORITES:
– The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report (Comedy Central): As you might expect.
– 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation (NBC): Literate media-savvy comedies score high among Dems in general, notes Experian-Simmons senior marketing manager John Fetto. “Sarcastic humor is always a hook for them,” he adds.
– The View (ABC): Shows that skew female tend to do better among Dems, while male-friendly shows tend to do perform higher among Republicans.
– Glee (Fox)
– Modern Family (ABC): Last year, the progressive Glee and Modern Family scored surprisingly strong among both political leanings. Among conservatives this year, the shows still do fairly well, but have dropped out of their top ranks.
LIBERAL DEMOCRAT LEAST FAVORITES:
– Swamp Loggers (Discovery): What are they doing on this show, feeding Nancy Pelosi to alligators?
– Dog the Bounty Hunter (A&E) and COPS (syndication): “Question authority.”
– The Ultimate Fighter (Spike TV): Conservatives can make their own “cut and run” jokes…
– The Price Is Right (CBS): Annnnd a budget-crisis joke.
– CSI: Miami (CBS)
CONSERVATIVE-REPUBLICAN FAVORITES:
– Swamp Loggers (Discovery) and Top Shot (History): Gritty documentary-style work-related reality shows on cable index really strongly with conservative Republicans. Swamp Loggers is particularly polarizing.
– The Bachelor (ABC): They also tend to gravitate toward broadcast reality competition shows.
– Castle (ABC): Ranks fairly high among Dems, too.
– Mythbusters (Discovery)
– Only in America With Larry the Cable Guy, American Pickers, Pawn Stars, Swamp People (History): If you’re a Republican candidate looking to raise money, put ads on History.
– The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report (Comedy Central): But not disliked equally. Republicans prefer Colbert between the two (maybe some pretend he’s being serious).
– South Park (Comedy Central): Aww, South Park is an equal opportunity offender! But, again, media-darling sarcastic comedies tend to be a turn-off.
– TMZ (syndication)
– General Hospital (ABC)

70 Years Later "A Date Which Will Live in Infamy"
Remembering Pearl Harbor - 70 Years Ago Today!
“When the Arizona exploded, she rained sailors.” — Memories of a survivor
Today is the 70th anniversary of the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The next day the United States entered World War II against the Axis powers (Japan, Germany and Italy). It is remarkable that they are all allies of the United States today! The culmination of that battle was the sinking of the USS Arizona at the cost of over 1100 American men. They are forever entombed in the ship. The Arizona memorial remains the most popular attraction in Hawaii, please visit when you are in the state. But we should never forget what happened today. Here are a couple of pictures taken from my honeymoon of the Arizona as she sits today under water.
Amazingly, she is still leaking oil after all these years!
